What are some of the ways people in our culture are tempted to trust their spiritual resumé? While some of these things may be good things, why are these things insufficient for a confidence of eternal salvation (see Romans 3:19-20)?
Read Colossians 4:3-4. As you think through your own evangelism, how can you grow in making the gospel clear – avoiding both the errors of “easy believism” on the one hand or inadvertently teaching some form of works righteousness on the other?
Read Romans 8:33-34. While good works are a crucial demonstration of our faith (see James 2:18-20), what problems can arise when we look to our works as our first source of assurance as opposed to looking to the God who justifies us and the Savior who intercedes for us?
