7th Anniversary
Life Groups – Prepare for More People
Volunteer Ministry Fair

7th Anniversary

We will be celebrating our 7th anniversary for CBCTV on January 11, 2026, commissioning the South Valley Church Plant, and celebrating with baptisms! As the Deacons of this church, be praying for this weekend and for the South Valley team as they prepare for this next phase of the church planting process.

Life Groups – Prepare for More People

Life Group leaders, I (PC) will be preaching from Colossians 1:28-29 on Sunday. Part of the application of this sermon is calling everyone to get into a Life Group (see #3 below in the application questions). I imagine this might result in more people signing up for a Life Group after the first of the year. Prayerfully prepare your heart to receive more people. We will continue to work to raise up new leaders, to lead more groups, so that we can reduce the numbers per/group but this can often be a process since God continues to bring more people to CBCTV! Let’s be praying for everyone in our church to join a Life Group and engage in the work of fellowship and discipleship in 2026!

Volunteer Ministry Fair

We will be having a Volunteer Ministry Fair January 18th since there are several new areas in which to serve. Please encourage your LifeGroup members to sign up to serve in a ministry if they are not already plugged in somewhere.

Sunday’s Sermon:

Resolve To Present Others Mature in Christ

Colossians 1:28-29

  1. Read Colossians 1:28. In what ways do you need to grow this year in order to pour into the lives of others more biblically (warning and teaching) and consistently?

  2. Read Colossians 1:29. Even though everyone is called to work hard, toiling and struggling to see everyone mature in Christ, this can be lived out in various ways depending on many factors. What will it look like for you to exhaust yourself to help others mature in 2026?

  3. If you are not in a Life Group, plan to join one. If you are in a Life Group, identify three ways that you can better contribute to the needs of the Life Group in 2026.

  4. Write out a list of specific prayers that you will pray in order to see the first two questions above accomplished. Commit to praying these prayers consistently this year.

  5. Read Philippians 2:4. Give an honest evaluation of how much you put others before yourself. What are your biggest barriers to living a life that reflects this verse?

Part-Time Student Ministry Admin
Christmas Eve Services

Part-Time Student Ministry Admin

Deacons, we are currently searching for a part-time Student Ministry admin and wanted to share this with you. We’re prayerfully looking for someone in a stable season of life who is wired for administration, able to serve consistently, and interested in investing in this role for many years. This position is not intended as a stepping-stone into full-time ministry, but a vital support role for someone who excels in behind-the-scenes work and finds joy in helping the ministry run well. If you—or someone you know who may be a good fit—would like to apply or receive more information, please feel free to pass this along. You can access the application here: https://compassbible.churchcenter.com/people/forms/1115053.

Christmas Eve Services

As a reminder, the Christmas Eve service times this year are: 12:00, 1:45, and 3:30. Be sure to remind your Life Group of these times as they are different than last year.

Sunday’s Sermon:

The Life-Changing Incarnation of Jesus Christ

John 1:14-16

  1. Read John 1:14. It’s very easy to become familiar with the story of Christmas. Why is
the truth expressed in this verse so incredible? Why should this be more than merely
    interesting but also life-changing?

  2. Read Psalm 138:1-2. As 2025 comes to a close, what are some ways you have seen the
steadfast love and faithfulness of God this year? Take time to give God whole-hearted
    thanks for that.

  3. Read John 12:42-43. In what ways might you be tempted to love the glory that comes
from man more than the glory of God? Why is the glory that comes from man so
dramatically inferior to the glory that comes from God?

  4. Read 2 Corinthians 12:9-10. How can the all-sufficient, never-ending nature of God’s
grace be an encouragement to you—especially in difficult situations?

  5. How can you be intentional to point people to the glory of Christ this Christmas? As you
consider this next year, how can you decrease so that Christ will increase?

Sunday’s Sermon:

The Fuel of Faithful Ministry

1 Timothy 6:11-16

  1. Read 1 Timothy 6:11. Focus on the last two traits recommended by this verse:steadfastness & gentleness. What are some difficult situations or relationships in your life where you need to display these virtues? How can the realities of eternal life & divine
accountability help you cultivate these things?

  2. Read 1 Timothy 6:12. How would your service to God improve in quality if you are truly holding onto the realities of eternal life and all that is yours in Christ?

  3. Read 1 Timothy 1:15-16. As you look at this description of God in these verses, how is the character of God an encouragement to you? How does knowing who God is put fuel into your fight of faith?

  4. Now how is this description of God a challenge or convicting to you? How can knowing who God is help you remain “unstained” and “free from reproach”?

  5. Read 2 Corinthians 5:9-10. How can a sense of divine accountability bring a level of simplicity to your life? How will it help you to simply focus on “pleasing him” this week?

Pray for the Parades!
Deacon Retreat 2026

Pray for the Parades!

As our team gets in place at the Meridian Lights Paraade and prepares to worship along the parade route, serve the community with hot chocolate, invite people to church, and share the gospel please pray for them! There’s a chance of rain still tonight so please pray for the Lord to keep them dry and give them opportunities to engage in faithful ministry work!

Also pray for the same group as they seek to engage with the community at the Kuna Night Light Parade tomorrow night!

Deacon Retreat 2026

Please mark your calendars for our annual Deacon Retreat happening on Friday, January 16th-Saturday, January 17th. Similar to previous years, we will kick off the weekend with dinner at the church building starting at 6pm on Friday with a formal end time of 9pm (but feel free to stay and fellowship as long as you’d like). We will gather back up on Saturday at 8am for breakfast and training by the Pastors. We look forward to this time where we get to check in and train the deacons of the church.

Sunday’s Sermon:

Roots of False Teaching: Greed

1 Timothy 6:2b-10

  1. Read Philippians 3:8. What in your life should show that you truly believe that Christ is more valuable (of “surpassing worth”) than anything else in this world?

  2. Read 1 Timothy 6:8. In what ways might you be tempted to overlook the basic things that God has provided for you and focus more on things that are desires as opposed to needs? What are some of the ways God has provided for you for which you need to be more thankful this week?

  3. Read Psalm 23:1 & Hebrews 13:5-6. How should the presence of God as your
shepherd help you to put off the love of money and put on contentment?

  4. Read 1 Timothy 6:9-10. What are some of the pains and senseless and harmful desires that the love of many can lead to in this life? In what ways might you be tempted into these things and how can you fight against them?

  5. Read Luke 18:24. Why is it hard for a rich person to go to heaven? In what ways do you realistically guard yourself from wealth choking out your faith?

Deacons, We Are Grateful for You
Rick Talcott “Finishing Life Well” Teaching
Invite Women to the Christmas Event

Deacons, We Are Grateful for You

Deacons,

We, the pastors, would like to take a moment to express our gratitude to you for who you are and all that you do. You truly live up to your title of servants. Our church can continue to grow without skipping a beat because of your tireless and faithful work to serve the body as church staff, Life Group leaders, and ministry leaders. We are privileged to serve alongside you, and we pray for many more years of God's blessings upon this church and this team as we continue to run for His glory. We hope you've had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We are incredibly thankful for you.

Rick Talcott “Finishing Life Well” Teaching

Our Financial Stewardship class was taught by a special guest last weekend. Rick Talcott served as the Business Administrator for Compass Bible Church Aliso Viejo (our sending church) for two decades, and he unpacked the importance of estate planning and other practical implications of preparing to finish life well as a godly steward. All are welcome to attend this session.

Life Group leaders, this class provides a unique opportunity to help your people gain some practical wisdom in this important area. Be sure to watch this important class yourself and then send this teaching to anyone you think may be interested.

Invite Women to the Christmas Event

Life Group leader ladies be sure to invite the women in your group a celebratory evening at “Joy of Every Longing Heart” on Friday, December 12th! This festive night will include original specialty coffee drinks plus dessert, a worship night and devotional message, as well as fellowship and raffle prizes! The event is from 6:30-9pm. Registration costs $3. Register here!

Sunday’s Sermon:

Roots of False Teaching: Arrogance

1 Timothy 6:1-10

  1. Read Ephesians 4:11-16. How has God used the local church to help you grow indoctrinally rooted Christlikeness? How can you keep yourself focused on this goal andhelp this to remain the focus of your church or small group?

  2. Read 1 Timothy 4:16. While this verse is specifically aimed at a pastor (Timothy), why is it important for every Christian to guard their lives and teaching? How can you be more vigilant in guarding yourself from error?

  3. Read Isaiah 6:1-8. Why do you think humbling experiences before the holiness of God are a common experience for those God is preparing for service (think also of Moses at the burning bush in Exodus 3-4 and Peter with the great catch of fish in Luke 5)? Why is it impossible for arrogance and a truly high view of God to coexist?

  4. Review the symptoms of arrogance mentioned in the sermon. Which one hits closest to home to you? What will greater humility look like in that specific area?

  5. Read 1 John 4:7-12. What about the example of Christ should inspire the way that we love and serve others? What was so different about Christ as opposed to the other religious leaders of the day?

Finishing Well Financially
Men - Welcome Guests Tomorrow Morning
Invite Your Group to Meridian Lights Parade

Finishing Well Financially

Our Financial Stewardship class will be taught by a special guest this weekend. Rick Talcott served as the Business Administrator for Compass Bible Church Aliso Viejo (our sending church) for two decades, and he will be unpacking the importance of estate planning and other practical implications of preparing to finish life well as a godly steward. All are welcome to attend this session.

Life Group leaders, this class provides a unique opportunity to help your people gain some practical wisdom in this important area. Be sure to invite anyone you think may be interested. We will follow up next week with a link to the teaching.

Men - Welcome Guests Tomorrow Morning

We love how our Life Groups participate in these events and how these events reinforce the community of these groups! While we love how these events provide opportunities for our groups to connect, we also want to be mindful that many will show up to these events that are not connected to a Life Group.

As a reminder, could you help us to to create a welcoming environment for these folks by doing a couple of things?

First, please be on the lookout for new people tomorrow morning. Observe those who seem to be by themselves or looking for a place to sit. Invite them into your group or connect them with another one (if that’s a better fit). Showing up early and greeting people in the lobby could be a great way to do this.

Second, please avoid saving tables by leaning all of the chairs up against the table. This does not present the most welcoming look for those who might be new. While it is certainly appropriate for your group to gather around a table or two, be aware that there may be an opportunity to minister to someone new or invite them to sit with you at your table.

Invite Your Group to the Meridian Lights Parade

We will be participating in the Meridian Winter Lights Parade on Friday, December 5th  from 6-8pm. Our church will once again have a parade float featuring our Compass Worship Band. This provides a great opportunity to serve as a Life Group or just hangout along the parade route for a time of fellowship.

Either way, be sure to send the registration to serve link to your Life Group so that we can have more volunteers to follow along with our Compass Kids Worship Team, hand out Christmas Eve service invites, or serve at our hot chocolate stand!

Sunday’s Sermon:

The King of the Earth

Psalm 47

  1. Read Psalm 96:1-13. According to Psalm 96, why is God worthy of fear-driven worship? Using Psalm 96 as a template, prayerfully write out a personal “Psalm” to the Lord.

  2. Read Psalm 47:1-2. How can you grow in joy-filled worship and service to God as your king?

  3. Read Psalm 47:5-7 & 1 Corinthians 14:15. What truths can you meditate on to grow in praising God with your spirit and mind?

  4. Read Hebrews 2:5-9. How can you grow in faithfulness as you await the day everything is in subjection to Christ?

  5. Read Psalm 47:8-9. What will God’s all-encompassing future reign be like? How should knowing what God has in store for the future shape the way you live in the present?

Sunday’s Sermon:

A Different Kind of Worker

1 Timothy 6:1-2a

  1. Read Romans 8:35-39. What are some of the difficult situations in your life that may tend to affect your attitude? How should a right understanding of the love of God change your perspective in these circumstances?

  2. Read 1 Peter 2:21-25. How have you benefited from Christ enduring unfair treatment? How should his example help you when you are unfairly treated?

  3. Read Matthew 5:14-16. How does your work cause other people to give God glory? How can your work grow in representing God and the gospel well?

  4. Read Titus 2:9-10. Especially in a work-related context, how might you be most tempted to be argumentative or disagreeable? How can you work to represent God well in those moments?

  5. Read 1 Timothy 6:2. In your occupation, whom is your work supposed to benefit? Whether that answer be bosses, customers, clients, or your own children, how can you focus on serving them well this week?

Dessert and Coffee will be served.

Sunday’s Sermon:

The Importance of Faithful Leaders

1 Timothy 5:17-25

  1. Read Philippians 1:25 & Hebrews 13:17. In what ways will you benefit from faithful pastors? How should this affect your attitude and actions as you seek out and participate in a faithful local church?

  2. Read 1 Timothy 5:17. What can you do to show honor to pastors who have faithfully taught you the word in such a way that encourages them to continue to do the hard work of teaching?

  3. Read 1 Corinthians 5:6-8. How can a little bit of sin affect a whole church? While this is
especially true for leaders, how can it also be true for you? How should that affect the
seriousness with which you deal with sin?

  4. Read 1 Timothy 5:24-25. “Time and truth go hand in hand.” Think about how this
statement can be both challenging and comfort. How should this reality affect your
    behavior this week?

  5. Spend some extra time praying for your pastors with the prayer requests below.

Life Group Leader ladies, please remind your Life Group ladies to register for the next women’s event on Saturday, November 8 from 9:00-11:30am as we conclude our “Wisest of Women” series in the book of Proverbs! Throughout this book Solomon pleads with his son to get wisdom, and writes wise sayings that should shape our parenting. No matter the ages of your children, this teaching will instruct your life in wise living and encourage you in motherhood! Breakfast and coffee will be served.

Daylight Savings Time Ends

It’s more than likely that your phone does this for you, but just in case… don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour Saturday night!

Sunday’s Sermon: Caring for Widows

1 Timothy 5:3-16

  1. Read Psalm 146:9. Take some time to consider this verse in the context of this whole Psalm. Why should the fact that God upholds the widow and the fatherless encourage you and grow you trust in the Lord?

  2. Read James 1:27. What can you do to show special care for orphans, widows, or others who are truly in need?

  3. Read 1 Timothy 5:4. What can be difficult about caring for an aging/widowed parent (or perhaps another family member that legitimately needs help), and how you can rightly work through those difficulties in order to please the Lord?

  4. In what way can humbly serving others in their affliction prepare you for affliction of your own? How will this motivate you to actively show care for others?

  5. Read 1 Timothy 5:13. What is some of the trouble that the sins in this verse can lead to? How can you work to avoid these errors?

Pray for the Men’s Retreat!

Pray for the Men’s Retreat!

Don’t forget to pray for the men who are up at Quaker Hill at the 2025 Men’s Retreat, The Hunt! We’ve already heard of one man repenting and giving his life to Christ today! Pray for tonight’s third session, tomorrow’s fourth session, and for lasting fruit to come from this retreat as we head back tomorrow.

Sunday’s Sermon: The Pastor’s Job Description

1 Timothy 4:11-5:2

  1. Read 1 Peter 5:1-4. While this verse is directed at pastors/elders, what does it teach you about the importance of being led by faithful shepherds? How does it encourage you to look for, pray for, and follow good pastors?

  2. Read James 1:22-25. How can you respond to the biblical teaching you hear at church by being a doer and now a hearer only? What are the dangers of hearing good biblical teaching but not applying it?

  3. Read 1 Timothy 4:15. Think through your own Christian life and ministry. In what ways would you like to show obvious progress? What kind of things do you need to practice
and immerse yourself into to make that kind of progress?

  4. Read 1 Timothy 4:12. Think through the five attributes listed in this passage. Who are some people that have set a good example for you in these things? In which of these
ways would you most like to see your example improve?

  5. Read Galatians 6:1-2. Why is it sometimes hard to restore others “with gentleness”? How can you work to come alongside others instead of beating them down?

Kids Running During Adventure Club
Men's Deacon Pre-Retreat Prayer Meeting

Kids Running During Adventure Club

Life Group leaders, please encourage the parents in your group to keep their kids from running in the building before and after Adventure Club. Encourage them to not let their children run free in the auditorium, office space, or foyer at any time. Thanks!

Men's Deacon Pre-Retreat Prayer Meeting

Deacon Men, we’ll see you tomorrow for our pre-Men’s-Retreat prayer meeting. We will be meeting in the Heritage Room from 6-8pm. Dinner will be provided.

Sunday’s Sermon: The Goal of Godliness

1 Timothy 4:1-10

  1.  Read Colossians 3:20-23. How might you be tempted to reduce godliness to mere external prohibitions? While some prohibitions may be wise and helpful, why is it
important to keep the focus on your heart?

  2. Read Ecclesiastes 5:18-20. How can you avoid the opposing errors of ascetism or hedonism? What are some things in your life you want to be intentional and thankful to enjoy to the glory of God this week?

  3. Read 1 Timothy 4:6-7. What kinds of things take up too much of your attention and distract you from the truth in God’s Word that you are responsible for knowing? What
can you do to give more of your attention to things that will truly nourish your soul?

  4. Read 1 Timothy 4:10. Could the words “toil” or “strive” be accurately used to describe your efforts towards godliness? What about our hope in God makes this kind of effort worthwhile?

  5. Read Romans 5:1-5. How will the goal of godliness transform your perspective on suffering? What are some current situations in your life where this kind of thinking needs to apply?

Deacon Men’s Prayer Meeting and Dinner 10/18

DEACON MEN: Join us for dinner and a prayer meeting for the 2025 Men's Retreat: THE HUNT.

You will get an intro to each message and consider together the theme of the retreat. We will enjoy a hearty time in corporate prayer, praying for the various aspects, messages, impact, and souls of the men's retreat.

We will meet in the Heritage Room in the Church Offices from 6-8pm.  Dinner from Teriyaki Madness.

Sunday’s Sermon: Lives that Support God’s Truth

1 Timothy 3:14-16

  1.  Read Acts 20:28. In this verse, the reminder that the church was purchased with Christ’s blood is meant to emphasize the importance of the elders caring for God’s flock. How should this reminder affect the way you view the church and how you behave in it?

  2. Read 1 Timothy 3:16 & Colossians 1:15-20. What are unbelievers missing out on by not trusting Christ? What are some aspects of the person & work of Jesus Christ that are precious to you that non-Christians desperately need to know about?

  3. Think through the different spheres of influence, relationships, and opportunities in our life. In which areas would you most like to be more vocal and active into upholding the truth about Jesus Christ? What will it look like to do that?

  4. Read Matthew 23:23-24. Why does legalism always end up lowering God’s standard of godliness instead of raising it? How might you be tempted to focus on external matters and miss the point of what God is calling you to?

  5. Read 1 Timothy 1:5. As you consider the goal that Paul describes here, where are you most in need of growth in true godliness? What is the next step for you to pursue growth in that area?

Partners Program Updates
6-on-6 Volleyball

Partners Program Updates

We are updating the way that we’re tracking Partners graduates moving forward. This is important information for you to know since you, as Deacons, take many people through the Partners Program. This is also important information to share with your Life Groups this next week.

Here’s the update: The LEADER will now fill out the Partners Graduation Form. The updated form is designed to capture important information from the leader’s perspective. This will allow our Partners Team to gather important information about each graduate, helping them to match up people appropriately.

The Partners Graduation Form has been updated on the website. The Partners Table also has new location and sign, making it easier for new folks to find this important ministry: right across from the Bookstore. Look for the fancy new Partners sign hanging on the wall this weekend!

6-on-6 Volleyball

Our next Some Value League is Volleyball! Though it’s part of Men’s Ministry, we're opening it to wives! (and women in general)

So jump into this 6-on-6 volleyball league! Sporting a 9-game mini-season on 3 Sundays, with a 4th day for playoffs, this will prove of some value to you! (1 Tim. 4:8). Games held on Sunday afternoons at the YMCA next to Compass. Each team will play 3 games per day over about 1 hour of time.

Registration opens Oct. 10. Sign up as an individual, couple, group of 3 or 4, or full team of 6 to 9. Life Groups teams are welcome!

Sunday’s Sermon: Risky Words

Acts 4:1-31

  1.  Can you think of a recent moment where you have chosen safe silence over risky words? What was the situation? Why do you think you chose not to speak? In what ways can you be prepared for a different response next time the opportunity comes?

  2. Read Psalm 2. How does this Psalm (in light of the study of Acts 4) help overcome your fear about people’s reaction to your words?

  3. What do you think would be the potential consequences if you started taking many more risks in speaking gospel words. How does Acts 4:12 help you weigh whether facing these consequences would be worth it?

  4. Reflect on the church’s prayer in Acts 4:23-31. What beliefs about God are reflected in this prayer? What petitions do the believers make and which requests do they not make that you might have expected them to? What lessons from this can you apply to your own prayers?

Life Group Leader Update
Moms of Prodigals

Life Group Leader Update

We have an important update regarding Keith and Phyllis Vermilyea this week. The Vermilyea's have stepped down from leading their Life Group this week after much prayer and consideration over the past Summer. Keith has been dealing with some health issues over the past few years, and the time has come to pass the baton to another couple to lead the group. Be sure to thank the Vermilyea's for their years of service if you see them this weekend. They have faithfully led this group for years, pouring themselves out for the saints they were called to lead. We are grateful for their faithful and tireless service!

The couple that is stepping into this role is Jon and Connie Stuhr. The Stuhr's have been in this Life Group for years, and they have been stepping in to lead from time to time, including this entire past Summer. We're excited for them to step into this role formally and lead this group forward. Praise God for His providential timing to put them in this group for such a time as this.

Moms of Prodigals

Lili Bragar is hosting a prayer group in her Meridian home called Moms of Prodigals every Tuesday morning at 10am. This is an open group for any mom who needs prayer for an unbelieving son or daughter, but space is limited to around 12 ladies. If you have someone in your LifeGroup interested, please have them reach out to Lili at 925-895-2854.

Sunday’s Sermon: The Servants the Church Needs

1 Timothy 3: 8-13

  1. Why is character so important for those serving and leading in God’s church? How might you be tempted to focus on what you are doing to serve while ignoring your
    character?

  2. Read 1 Timothy 3:8-12. Choose one characteristic on which to focus as you follow-up on this message. Why did you choose that one? What can you practically do to pursue growth in that area?

  3. Read Romans 5:3-5. What are some ways you are currently experiencing suffering, and how is that testing your character? How can you lean into the sanctifying effects of these trials in your life right now?

  4. Parents, what will it look like for you to maintain a proper focus on what is happening under your own roof while also being faithful in church and in the marketplace?

  5. Read John 12:43 and Ecclesiastes 7:1. What is the difference between improperly seeking the glory that comes from man versus rightly desiring a “good name”? How can that impact how you go about serving the church?

Getting the Most out of Life Groups - Video 4
Invite the Women to Wisest Women Event
Men's and Women's Ministry Dates

Getting the Most out of Life Groups - Video 4

Although this video also went out in today’s church-wide email, be sure to watch it and share it with your Life Group. Spend a few minutes this week discussing it’s content with your Life Group. For those groups that aren’t meeting this next week, please take some time to discuss this video the following week. Here is a question to help prompt the discussion: In this fourth video titled “Always Seeking to Multiply,” the pastors talked about having the mindset of pioneers and not settlers. How can you cultivate the mindset of being a pioneer, willing to embrace change as a means to grow and reach more people?

Invite the Women to Wisest Women Event

Encourage your LifeGroup Ladies to sign up for our next Women’s Event on Saturday, October 11th at 9am to continue our “Wisest of Women” series through the book of Proverbs! Breakfast and coffee will be served.

Men's and Women's Ministry Dates

Below are the dates for the remaining events in 2025 and the upcoming dates for 2026. Please review and be sure to share with your Life Groups.

Sunday’s Sermon: Equipped to Build God's Church

Acts 20:17-32

  1. Read 1 Corinthians 15:58. God tells us to remain steadfast and unshakable in serving Him. Where are you tempted to quit or pull back in ministry? What specific truths can you hold onto that will give you strength to endure?

  2. Read Jeremiah 1:7–8. God tells Jeremiah not to be afraid but to speak all that the Lord commands. In what ways are Christians today tempted to pull back from declaring God’s Word, and how can we grow in courage to speak unpopular truths?

  3. Read 1 Peter 5:2–3.  While written to pastors, these verses provide guiding principles for anyone who shepherds others—whether in small groups, discipleship, mentoring, or parenting. Which part of this call to shepherd challenges you most in your context?

  4. Read 2 Timothy 4:1-4.  In light of the challenges Paul describes in these verses, how should we rethink the way we handle most of our disagreements, and how can we channel our energy into unified, prayerful, biblical ministry?

  5. Read Hebrews 13:17.  Why is a healthy respect for godly leadership, as described in this verse, vital for the success of the church’s mission and expansion in our day?

Family Weekend Picnic Registration Reminder

Getting the Most out of Life Groups - Video 3

Although this video also went out in today’s church-wide email, be sure to watch it and share it with your Life Group. Spend a few minutes this week discussing it’s content with your Life Group. Here is a question to help prompt the discussion: In this third video titled “Engaging in Discipleship,” the pastors talked about how it is the job of everyone in the church to engage in discipleship. Utilizing the practical ideas they outlined (i.e. filling out your sermon application questions each week), how can you engage in discipleship more intentionally in your Life Group this ministry calendar year?

Family Weekend Picnic Registration Reminder

Please remind your Life Group that the Family Picnic Registration is a separate registration. So even if someone has registered for the Friday and Saturday event we still want them to register for the picnic so that we can plan accordingly. RSVP for the Family Weekend Sunday Picnic

Sunday’s Sermon: The Leaders the Church Needs, Pt. 2

1 Timothy 3:1-7

  1. What clouds your thinking the most and keeps you from thinking clearly and being “sober-minded”? How can eternal realities and the truth of God’s Word help you be
    level-headed?

  2. Read Hebrews 13:5. In a world dominated by materialism, how can you keep your life free from the love of money? What will it look like for you to cultivate contentment?

  3. Read 2 Corinthians 12:14-15. In what ways should there be parallels between the attitude of a selfless parent and the attitude we should have toward others in the church?

  4. Read 1 Peter 4:9. Why is a genuine care for strangers so critical for a healthy church and a healthy witness to the world? What are some practical ways you can show this
care for others in our church and our community?

  5. Read 2 Timothy 2:24-26. Do you find that you tend to either avoid conflict altogether or that you can be quarrelsome? How can you grow in contending for the truth without
    being contentious?

Life Group Attendance and Roster Reminders
An Opportunity for Life Groups With Singles

Getting the Most out of Life Groups - Video 2

Although this video also went out in today’s church-wide email, be sure to watch it and share it with your Life Group. Spend a few minutes this week discussing it’s content with your Life Group. Here is a question to help prompt the discussion: In this second video titled "Pursuing Fellowship," the pastors highlighted the need to live out the “one anothers” in the church. They specifically mentioned being in physical proximity with one another knowing the spiritual condition of one another. In what ways do you want to grow in these areas this year?

Life Group Attendance and Roster Reminders

Life Group Leaders please remember to weekly record attendance. Since we are at the start of the new “Life Group Year” please clean up those rosters. If there are any questions on how to do this, please reach out to Jamie Langin.

An Opportunity for Life Groups With Singles

Life Group Leaders, if you have singles in your group consider inviting them to the next singles event and going with them for support. The next event is Saturday September 13 from 7-9pm where there will be a Q&A with the pastors. Perhaps this is an opportunity to encourage your singles to go while getting to know them more while encouraging them with your presence. Encourage them to RSVP here.

Sunday’s Sermon: The Leaders the Church Needs, Pt. 1

1 Timothy 3:1-7

  1. Why is it important for ALL Christians to pursue the character qualities listed in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, as opposed to just overseers and those who aspire to this office?

  2. As you consider the goal of being above reproach, in what ways would you most like to grow in living a life worthy of imitation? What will inside-out change look like in that
    area?

  3. Read Psalms 51:16-17. How do you respond when you realize something in your life is not above reproach? Are there ways you try to hide or justify your sin? What should
responding to your sin with a “broken and contrite heart” look like?

  4. How have faithful pastors throughout your life helped you study the Bible? How would you like to grow in your ability to handle God’s Word?

  5. As you consider the high and noble calling God has for leaders in the church, how can this week’s passage prompt you to pray for your leaders? What are some specific things you will pray for them this week?

Getting the Most out of Life Groups - Video Series

Although this video also went out in today’s church-wide email, be sure to watch it and share it with your Life Group. Spend a few minutes this week discussing it’s content with your Life Group. Here is a question to help prompt the discussion: In this first video titled "Making the Big Church Small," the pastors highlighted the need to be "known" in the church. In what ways do you hope to make yourself more known in this Life Group to have your spiritual needs met?

Let the Life Group Games Begin!

The Life Group Games are just around the corner! Today, we want to share two aspects of the competition so that your group can prepare.

Style Points - Each group will receive style points as the first event in the games. At the beginning of the competition pastor Johnny and pastor Charlie will walk around the arena and score each team according to the following criteria:

  1. Life Group Pride

  2. Originality

  3. Cohesion (% of Team Participation)

  4. Effort

Best Beef Bite - Each team will compete to impress a panel of three judges: Pastors Johnny, Josiah, and Charlie. Here are the competition rule:

  • Must be Gluten and Dairy free and contain beef as the star!

  • Include a label and description of the dish

  • Bring only enough for three servings for the three judges

  • It will be eaten and judged on stage before the games

    • Delivered by 4:30pm

      • We will have a delivery station so that your dish will remain anonymous during judging

      • How, when, and where you prepare your dish is completely up to you as long as it’s delivered by 4:30pm

  • Judging will be based on:

    • Flavor

    • Creativity

    • Use of Beef

Important Dates for Women’s Events

Women, be sure to save these two important dates and share them with your Life Group!

  • The Women’s Christmas Coffee will be held on the evening of Friday, December 12

  • The 2026 Women’s Retreat is scheduled for April 30-May 2

Sunday’s Sermon: The Men & Women the World Needs, Pt. 2

1 Timothy 2:8-15

  1. Why is it important to enthusiastically embrace God’s design for men and women as
opposed to just begrudgingly resigning to it? What difference will that have in your life,
    your home, and your church?

  2. What objections have you encountered that go against the straightforward reading of
this text? How can you respond to them biblically?

  3. Reread 1 Timothy 2:8-15. As we conclude this two-week study, how would you most like
to grow in what God has called you to as a man or as a woman?

  4. Men, read 1 Corinthians 16:13-14. What will it look like for you to live out the loving
strength that is described in this passage?

  5. Women, read 1 Peter 3:3-6. What will it look like for you to cultivate character that is
truly beautiful in God’s sight? (Consider the words at the end of 1 Timothy 2:15, as well:
faith, love, and holiness with self-control.)

1 Timothy 2:8-15

  1. Read Matthew 9:36-38. What prevents you from feeling this same compassion for the lost around you? What can you do to cultivate this kind of compassion?

    2. Why is it important for us to base our opinions on God’s Word instead of cultural trends? Are there any ways you think you have let culture shape your thoughts more than the Scriptures?

    3. Men, read Psalm 66:18. What iniquities are you most tempted to cherish in your heart? What will it look like for you to approach prayer with holy hands and a holy heart?

    4. Men, what are you most tempted to get angry or quarrel about? How can humble prayer help you deal with these issues in a godly way and not a fleshly one?

    5. Women, as you think through the clothing you wear or the image you project, what will it look like for you to do that is respectable and modest?

    6. Women, how can you adorn your life with good works this week? Think especially about what that could look like at church and at home.

  2. What does Psalm 67:1-2 teach us about praying for our own needs and wants? How has the negative influence of “health and wealth” prosperity gospel of the past century hurt or curtailed our prayers to this end? How does Psalm 67:1-2 not teach the prosperity gospel?
