Read Matthew 5:19. Why do you think that this tendency to “relax” God’s commandments is still a problem today? What are some of the incorrect theological reasons that can be sometimes used to justify this “relaxing” of God’s call toward holiness? What are some ways you have been tempted to lower the standard?
Review the Sermon on the Mount. As you consider the various subjects that Jesus touches on here, what are some ways your thoughts/attitudes/actions/words need to change as you pursue the kind of life that Jesus describes here?
Read 1 Peter 1:13. What are some ways your sure & amazing future should affect your pursuit of holiness this week?
Read 1 Peter 1:14. What are some ways “ignorance” contributed to the sins of your past and may still contribute to sin in your life? How will a right view of God help you overcome your sin?
Read 1 Peter 1:18-19. What are some of the ways you have seen the “futility” of sin? Why is it so important to understand that salvation includes not only forgiveness from the penalty of sin but also freedom from the power of sin?
