Reminder: Deacons Meeting Preparation

Please spend some time preparing before our next Deacon meeting. During our meeting we’ll spend some time in a large group discussion. To be fully prepared for that discussion please spend time alone and with your spouse thinking about and writing down some answers to the following questions::

• What has been encouraging over the last year of ministry? How have you been refreshed by ministry? What reasons do you have to be grateful? How has God answered prayers? How have people gotten saved or grown in Christlikeness? How have YOU grown? What Scriptures did God bring to mind and solidify in your heart through faithful service in this ministry post?

• What has been discouraging over the last year of ministry? Do you feel worn down and beat up in any way? What trials has your group endured? How have difficult people in your ministry caused pain or problems for you or others? How has the ministry NOT worked out in a way that you desired it would? Have you been mistreated or misrepresented by those you lead? Have those you lead in your life group or ministry not responded with faithfulness?

John Sanborn Is Heading to Uganda

John Sanborn is heading to Uganda from September 4th through the 28th to help support Shannon Hurley and Sufficiency of Scripture Ministries, our ministry partner there. Below is a letter detailing what he will be doing while he is there. As the trip gets closer, we will have details for how you and your life group can partner with his trip to Uganda. If you would like to have John come and share more about the work at your Life Group, whether before or after the trip, please feel free to reach out. You can also watch the video John put together below, which shows the work that he does on his previous trips out to SOS Ministries.

Dear Church Family, 

I hope all is well with everyone! As most of you already know, Compass Bible Church supports the Hurley family in Uganda. They are our missionary family abroad. Few of us have had the privilege to travel to East Africa to serve alongside them. God has presented me with another amazing opportunity to again go and serve him with the abilities that which he has given me. I am still able and willing to make the trek to East Africa to be in service to our King. The tasks at hand will be grading and excavating areas on campus at SOS Uganda’s development manager has requested the following tasks:

-Finish grading around church building

-Finish grading of family tri-units 1-5 and 6-10 + Courtyards 

-Clearing the bush (AKA Jungle) for future FTU building and PTP buildings of double triplex with plumbing 

-Filling of the old Barrow Pit for future building site 

-Road Maintenance

-and unknown added tasks (last minute) 

Please pray about it and consider teaming up with us this trip in prayer and support. The word says in Matthew 6:21 for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. As Pastor Ben says LET’S GO! In this case I look at it as I get to go and count it an honor to do so in service to the King. Lord willing…Depart September 4th and return on September 28th.

2. Read Matthew 6:10. How should these requests from the Lord’s prayer and the ideas of asking God to stop the wicked and bring justice impact your prayer life?

3. Read Luke 18:9-14. What is the difference between righteous prayers for God’s justice and self-righteous prayers like the one of the Pharisee in this passage? How can you make sure that your prayers don’t follow his example, but that of David in Psalm 58?

Adventure Club Launch Dates

The 2023-24 Adventure Club season is coming up soon! Our Tuesday and Thursday night meetings will start on September 5th & 7th, respectively. Save those dates as we look forward to this next season of ministry! Also, look for Fall Adventure Club registration to open on July 24th.

1. Read Proverbs 3:5. What are some ways you might be tempted to lean on yourself instead of God? How can you notice and avoid these tendencies in your own life?

3. Read Psalm 62:1, 5. While “waiting” on the Lord may sound passive, why is it actually very active? What are some thoughts or desires you will have to wrestle with in order to truly wait on the Lord?
   Read Philippians 4:6. Why is prayer so important in our response to fear, anxiety, or trouble? What keeps you from truly pouring your heart out to God in these times?

4. Read Psalm 62:11-12. Why are the attributes/actions of God listed here so important for us to know as we wait on the Lord? What are some other verses that express the importance of these things, or what other attributes of God can be helpful as we wait on the Lord?

Pray For the Men’s Event Tomorrow

This message will deal with the fact that a man of God is a worshiper. This is likely the most important of the messages in this series since what and how we worship determines how we lead, stay focused, and devote ourselves to the church. Pray that this will impact the men of our church as they gather together to worship the Lord.

Family Weekend Dates

Family Weekend will be this September 22nd-24th. We will have our Friday evening Banquet, multiple Saturday morning breakout sessions, and church picnic on Sunday afternoon. And the return of the picnic means the return of the Life Group Games, which we will keep to only one hour! This will help make it easier for everyone to participate. We will ensure this is a fun hour of competition for every life group!

2. Reread Psalm 23:1. Meditate on the reality that Yahweh is your shepherd. What are some of the reasons that you fail to trust in him? What are some of the reasons you should trust him more than you do?

3.  Read Matthew 6:32-33. What are some of the ways misdirected desires can negatively affect your contentment? What will it look like this week for you to “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness” this week?

4. Read Psalm 23:4. What are some of the “evils” you personally are most tempted to fear? How do the promised provision and protection of God give you courage in the face of those specific fears?

5. Read 1 Thessalonians 4:17-18. How should the reality that “we will always be with the Lord” be encouraging to you this week? As you encounter various difficulties this week, be intentional to remind yourself of this truth.

Please Invite Your Men to the Men’s Event

Life Groups leaders, will you please send a specific invite to the men in your group? The next (and last) Instalment of our "What Is a Man?” series will be on July 8th at 8am.

This message will deal with the fact that a man of God is a worshiper. This is likely the most important of the messages in this series since what and how we worship determines how we lead, stay focused, and devote ourselves to the church.

We believe this will be a great time of encouragement and refreshment for the men as we eat, sing praises, fellowship, and learn from God’s word! Register for the event here.

Psalm 32

1. Reread Psalm 32:1-4. How have you seen both the pain of guilt and the joy of forgiveness in your own life? How do these realities deepen your appreciation for what God has done for us?

2. Find another passage that expresses the joy of justification and meditate on that passage this week. What about this passage stands out to you about the wonder of God’s forgiveness?

3. Read Proverbs 1:20-33. What are both the warnings and the promises of this passage? Are there ways you are currently ignoring wisdom and/or your conscience?

4. Read Isaiah 55:6-9. What are some of the excuses people make to delay seeking the Lord and his forgiveness? Have you ever made any of those excuses and are there any ways you may be making those excuses now?

5. Read Titus 2:11-14. As you think about this upcoming week, what are some ways you need to be trained by the grace of God to say “no” to ungodliness and “yes” to righteousness?

June Focus of the Month

We are already halfway through June! As the Summer continues, be sure to implement fellowships as Pastor Josiah encouraged. Use the different pace of summer for Life Groups to build community through fellowships.

Camp Compass Volunteers Needed

Now that Ignite has ended, the biggest week of our Kids Ministry is rapidly approaching - Camp Compass. We still have needs for volunteers, especially for Small Group leaders who will be spending each day with a group of kids as they go throughout all of Camp Compass. We also have a need for assistant leaders to aid Small Group leaders. And finally, for both Sunday afternoon’s setup and Friday afternoon’s teardown, we need volunteers. You can direct anyone who would like to serve to this link. With well over 400 kids signed up already, please encourage those who can serve to do so.

Pray for Land: Offer Sent

Previously we told you that we were in the initial steps of looking at another piece of land. It is on the corner of Joplin Rd. and Star Rd.

We recently put an offer on this property and are now negotiating with the owner. Please pray for the leadership and Building Advisory Team as we seek to finalize the deal points and move into due diligence.

Pray For Ignite 2023

Our high school and middle school ministries, along with an army of volunteers, are heading up to Quaker Hill Camp on Tuesday for Ignite 2023. Please be praying for the students and volunteers who are up there this week coming up. Pastor Josiah asks that you pray:

1. Pray for students to get saved.

2. Pray for students to be sanctified.

3. Pray for safety for everyone involved.

Student Ministries Serving Need

As our high school and middle school ministries grow, so does our need for leaders. We are in need of leaders who are willing to commit to faithfully serving every Sunday evening from 5-7:30pm, and events when possible. What this will look like is helping to lead a small group; and prioritizing discipleship through meaningful relationships. Please ask members of your life group to prayerfully consider serving in this ministry. Those that are interested can fill out the serve form here.

Remind Your Life Group Men About Tomorrow

Pray for a Potential Property

We are in the initial steps of looking at another piece of land. It is on the corner of Joplin Rd. and Star Rd.

Chris Hernandez is in talks with engineers, trying to discern whether the groundwater on this property will be an issue or not. Please pray that we will have wisdom and understanding regarding the potential of turning this piece of land into the long-term home of Compass Bible Church Treasure Valley!

1. Read John 15:4-5. In what ways are you most tempted to rely on yourself instead of God? What are some specific reasons you actually do need to depend on God in these areas?

2. Honestly evaluate the amount of undistracted prayer time you get on a regular basis. How much do you spend in focused prayer each day? How can you either increase or protect this time?

3. Read Matthew 6:9-13. As you think through these six requests, which one do you see as most lacking in your own prayers? Why are each of these things so important to pray for on a regular basis?

4. Find some biblical promises that should be more central in your prayer life. How will your prayer life benefit from basing more of your prayers on God’s Word as opposed to your own ideas or desires?

How Care Meals Work

The Care Meals team helps provide meals to families within our church. When someone in your Life Group needs to take advantage of this assistance, start by having your Life Group fill the meal train yourselves. Once your Life Group has filled in as many dates as possible, you can forward it to the Care Meals team to fill the remaining gaps. Thank you!

Join the Prayer Team

Deacons, will you consider joining the Prayer Team (a part of the Care Team)? When you are on this list, you will receive the latest info regarding those in need of prayer for physical needs in the church. The pastors work with the Care Team to funnel all needs through the prayer team; it’s the best way to stay in touch regarding those in the hospital or with urgent care needs. Find two or three other passages that do this and try to memorize them this week. How do these verses grow your appreciation for the good news and how will they help with your own evangelism?

2. Think of your own evangelistic encounters. How can you keep those conversations more focused on these three most important words/ideas? What are some of the ways you might get sidetracked in those conversations?

3. Have you let some of the cultural counterfeits distort your own thinking about the gospel or what it really means to be a Christian? What are some specific Scriptures that can help you think more clearly on these issues?

Adventure Club Summer Schedule

Adventure Club Awards Night

May 9th and May 11th will be our Tuesday and Thursday Adventure Club Awards Nights. These ceremonies will recognize the kids who have put in the work of memorizing Scripture throughout the Adventure Club nights this year. Parents of kids in Adventure Club will join in this ceremony at 8pm on the evening of those dates, so please structure your Life Group discussions accordingly.

1. . Which of the beatitudes, when unpacked into eight points, revealed an area where you need to grow? Explain the growth that has to happen and how it will be achieved.

2. Read Psalm 42:1. Does this passage reflect how you describe your relationship with God? Explain why or why not.

3. The term used repeatedly in this passage is “blessed,” but it can also mean “happy.” Have you been “looking for happiness in all the wrong places?” Explain.

4. Read Proverbs 19:11, Romans 12:19, and 1 Corinthians 6:7. What do you need to believe about God to live according to these truths?

5. Read Romans 12:2. Do you think there are areas in your life that are “conformed to this world?” Regarding these specific areas, how will you need to “renew your mind” to focus more on the kingdom of God?

Pray For the Women’s Retreat

It is here! Our Women’s Ministry heads to Quaker Hill Camp and Conference Center in McCall, ID on Thursday, April 27th. Pray for our women’s ministry leaders as they finalize preparations leading up to Thursday.

Here are a few ways you can be praying:

• Pray that God would use this time away to grow every woman’s Hope in God

• Pray that there is a genuine community developed and lived out

• Pray that every woman registered makes it up the mountain (all 170 of them!!!)

  • That nothing unforeseen would come up that would prevent any woman from going

• Pray that Pastor Ben, Holly, and Kristina would be ready to teach with clarity from the Scriptures, exalting Christ, and encouraging the women

• Pray for all of the logistics (tech, housing, schedule, facilities, etc.)

Share Important Ignite Info With Your Group!

If you have people in your Life Group with kids that attend our Student Ministries, be sure to let them know that the biggest event of the year for our Student Ministry is coming up June 6-10th! For those of you that lead groups or ministries without anyone in this age range, will you pray as a group for this upcoming event?

• Be sure to let your life group know that Ignite is for upcoming 6th graders (current 5th graders) through 12th graders (graduating seniors).

• This year’s camp is at Quaker Hill in McCall.

• Be sure to read all about this year’s theme when you go to the registration page.

• Make sure you let your group know that their students can take advantage of Early Bird pricing.

• Also, please let any parents of 5th graders know about the upcoming meeting about moving up. Here are the details:

  • 5th Grade Parent Meeting - If you are the parent of a 5th grader, your student will be making the jump from Kid’s Ministry to The Grove Middle School Ministry in June! We have scheduled an informational meeting on Sunday, April 23 at 9am in the library at Heritage Middle School (Compass Classroom Location). During this time, we’ll share the vision, structure, and systems of The Grove and you’ll be able to meet our Middle School Director and leaders. There will also be time for you to ask any questions you may have. We look forward to seeing you there!

Pray for This Weekend:

Please take a moment to pray for each of the upcoming events. We have placed a few things to pray about regarding each.

Good Friday - Tonight at 7:30pm at Heritage Middle School - This will be one service with overflow in the small gym. There will be kids care up through 2nd grade. 

• Pray for there to be room to fit everyone in the main gym

• Pray for the overflow to work perfectly

• Pray for Pastor Ben’s preparation and the preaching of God’s Word

1. Read Ephesians 2:1-3. Why is an understanding of man’s depravity and God’s wrath so important to appreciating God’s grace? What is lost when we skip over the reality of sin or judgment as we talk about the gospel?

2. Find another passage in the Bible that describes the love and/or grace that has been shown to us through salvation. Alongside Ephesians 2, what about these passages cause you to marvel afresh at the grace of God?

3. Read Romans 3:27. What are some of the ways you might be tempted to boast in your own spiritual condition? How should a right understanding of the gospel lead to humility and what should that humility look like in your life?

Here is the schedule for all that we have going on during Resurrection Week:

Deacons, will you consider joining the Prayer Team (a part of the Care Team)? When you are on this list, you will receive the latest info regarding those in need of prayer for physical needs in the church. The pastors work with the Care Team to funnel all needs through the prayer team; it’s the best way to stay in touch regarding those in the hospital or with urgent care needs. You can join the team by filling out this form.

THE WISDOM OF GOD

1. Share a time in your life when the necessity of wisdom was evident (whether positive or negative). How did you see the Lord use wisdom to help in that situation? How did the lack of wisdom contribute negatively in that situation?

2. What does it mean that the "fear of the Lord" is the beginning of knowledge (or wisdom)? How does pursuing growth in the fear of the Lord lead to gaining wisdom?

3. Read Proverbs 1:1-7. What are the different "components" that make up wisdom in this passage? What corresponding wisdom-building habits should we pursue in order to grow in each component that of wisdom?

Important Info:

• Update on Land Deal

  • The deal with the land owners on Ustick near Can-Ada has “fallen through.” Both parties signed a Letter of Intent (LOI), agreeing to the terms, and then we signed a Purchase and Sale Agreement (PSA). We were awaiting the seller’s signature when we were informed they were walking away from the deal. The investment group that owns the property had a few individuals who wanted to hold on to the land. Although this was a surprise to us, it wasn’t to God! Next week, we will have more details regarding a plan to pray for Taking Ground as a church. Thanks for your continued prayers!
