Deacons, We Are Grateful for You

Deacons,

We, the pastors, would like to take a moment to express our gratitude to you for who you are and all that you do. You truly live up to your title of servants. Our church can continue to grow without skipping a beat because of your tireless and faithful work to serve the body as church staff, Life Group leaders, and ministry leaders. We are privileged to serve alongside you, and we pray for many more years of God's blessings upon this church and this team as we continue to run for His glory. We hope you've had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We are incredibly thankful for you.

Rick Talcott “Finishing Life Well” Teaching

Our Financial Stewardship class was taught by a special guest last weekend. Rick Talcott served as the Business Administrator for Compass Bible Church Aliso Viejo (our sending church) for two decades, and he unpacked the importance of estate planning and other practical implications of preparing to finish life well as a godly steward. All are welcome to attend this session.

Life Group leaders, this class provides a unique opportunity to help your people gain some practical wisdom in this important area. Be sure to watch this important class yourself and then send this teaching to anyone you think may be interested.

Sunday’s Sermon:

Roots of False Teaching: Arrogance

1 Timothy 6:1-10

  1. Read Ephesians 4:11-16. How has God used the local church to help you grow indoctrinally rooted Christlikeness? How can you keep yourself focused on this goal andhelp this to remain the focus of your church or small group?

  2. Read 1 Timothy 4:16. While this verse is specifically aimed at a pastor (Timothy), why is it important for every Christian to guard their lives and teaching? How can you be more vigilant in guarding yourself from error?

  3. Read Isaiah 6:1-8. Why do you think humbling experiences before the holiness of God are a common experience for those God is preparing for service (think also of Moses at the burning bush in Exodus 3-4 and Peter with the great catch of fish in Luke 5)? Why is it impossible for arrogance and a truly high view of God to coexist?

  4. Review the symptoms of arrogance mentioned in the sermon. Which one hits closest to home to you? What will greater humility look like in that specific area?

  5. Read 1 John 4:7-12. What about the example of Christ should inspire the way that we love and serve others? What was so different about Christ as opposed to the other religious leaders of the day?
