Although this video also went out in today’s church-wide email, be sure to watch it and share it with your Life Group. Spend a few minutes this week discussing it’s content with your Life Group. For those groups that aren’t meeting this next week, please take some time to discuss this video the following week. Here is a question to help prompt the discussion: In this fourth video titled “Always Seeking to Multiply,” the pastors talked about having the mindset of pioneers and not settlers. Sunday’s Sermon: Equipped to Build God's Church

Acts 20:17-32

1. Read 1 Corinthians 15:58. God tells us to remain steadfast and unshakable in serving Him. Where are you tempted to quit or pull back in ministry? What specific truths can you hold onto that will give you strength to endure?

2. Read Jeremiah 1:7–8. God tells Jeremiah not to be afraid but to speak all that the Lord commands. In what ways are Christians today tempted to pull back from declaring God’s Word, and how can we grow in courage to speak unpopular truths?

3. Read 1 Peter 5:2–3.  While written to pastors, these verses provide guiding principles for anyone who shepherds others—whether in small groups, discipleship, mentoring, or parenting. Which part of this call to shepherd challenges you most in your context?

4. Read 2 Timothy 4:1-4.  In light of the challenges Paul describes in these verses, how should we rethink the way we handle most of our disagreements, and how can we channel our energy into unified, prayerful, biblical ministry?

5. Read Hebrews 13:17.  Why is a healthy respect for godly leadership, as described in this verse, vital for the success of the church’s mission and expansion in our day?

1. What clouds your thinking the most and keeps you from thinking clearly and being “sober-minded”? How can eternal realities and the truth of God’s Word help you be
   level-headed?

2. Read Hebrews 13:5. In a world dominated by materialism, how can you keep your life free from the love of money? What will it look like for you to cultivate contentment?

3. Read 2 Corinthians 12:14-15. In what ways should there be parallels between the attitude of a selfless parent and the attitude we should have toward others in the church?

4. Read 1 Peter 4:9. Why is a genuine care for strangers so critical for a healthy church and a healthy witness to the world? What are some practical ways you can show this
   care for others in our church and our community?

5. Read 2 Timothy 2:24-26. Do you find that you tend to either avoid conflict altogether or that you can be quarrelsome? How can you grow in contending for the truth without
   being contentious?

   area?

3. Read Psalms 51:16-17. How do you respond when you realize something in your life is not above reproach? Are there ways you try to hide or justify your sin? What should
   responding to your sin with a “broken and contrite heart” look like?

4. How have faithful pastors throughout your life helped you study the Bible? How would you like to grow in your ability to handle God’s Word?

5. As you consider the high and noble calling God has for leaders in the church, how can this week’s passage prompt you to pray for your leaders? What are some specific things you will pray for them this week?

Let the Life Group Games Begin!

The Life Group Games are just around the corner! Today, we want to share two aspects of the competition so that your group can prepare.

Style Points - Each group will receive style points as the first event in the games. At the beginning of the competition pastor Johnny and pastor Charlie will walk around the arena and score each team according to the following criteria:

1. Life Group Pride

2. Originality

3. Cohesion (% of Team Participation) 

4. Effort

Best Beef Bite - Each team will compete to impress a panel of three judges: Pastors Johnny, Josiah, and Charlie. Here are the competition rule:

• Must be Gluten and Dairy free and contain beef as the star! 

• Include a label and description of the dish

• Bring only enough for three servings for the three judges

• It will be eaten and judged on stage before the games

• Delivered by 4:30pm

  • We will have a delivery station so that your dish will remain anonymous during judging

  • How, when, and where you prepare your dish is completely up to you as long as it’s delivered by 4:30pm

• Judging will be based on: 

• Flavor

• Creativity

• Use of Beef

1 Timothy 2:8-15

1. Why is it important to enthusiastically embrace God’s design for men and women as
   opposed to just begrudgingly resigning to it? What difference will that have in your life,
   your home, and your church?

2. What objections have you encountered that go against the straightforward reading of
   this text? How can you respond to them biblically?

3. Reread 1 Timothy 2:8-15. As we conclude this two-week study, how would you most like
   to grow in what God has called you to as a man or as a woman?

4. Men, read 1 Corinthians 16:13-14. What will it look like for you to live out the loving
   strength that is described in this passage?

5. Women, read 1 Peter 3:3-6. What will it look like for you to cultivate character that is
   truly beautiful in God’s sight? (Consider the words at the end of 1 Timothy 2:15, as well:
   faith, love, and holiness with self-control.)

Sunday’s Sermon: The Men & Women the World Needs, Pt. 1

1 Timothy 2:8-15

1. Read Matthew 9:36-38. What prevents you from feeling this same compassion for the lost around you? What can you do to cultivate this kind of compassion?

   2. Why is it important for us to base our opinions on God’s Word instead of cultural trends? Are there any ways you think you have let culture shape your thoughts more than the Scriptures?

   3. Men, read Psalm 66:18. What iniquities are you most tempted to cherish in your heart? What will it look like for you to approach prayer with holy hands and a holy heart?

   4. Men, what are you most tempted to get angry or quarrel about? How can humble prayer help you deal with these issues in a godly way and not a fleshly one?

   5. Women, as you think through the clothing you wear or the image you project, what will it look like for you to do that is respectable and modest?

1. Read Genesis 12:1-3. What was God’s foundational reason for calling out Abraham from his country to go and become a new nation? What does this tell you about God and his ways?

2. What does Psalm 67:1-2 teach us about praying for our own needs and wants? How has the negative influence of “health and wealth” prosperity gospel of the past century hurt or curtailed our prayers to this end? How does Psalm 67:1-2 not teach the prosperity gospel?

Fall Life Groups Adventure Club Sign Up

Life Groups officially re-start the first week in September, coinciding with our Adventure Club program. For those groups that are paired with our Adventure Club program on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the church, you need to have your members register their children for the program. Only those that are volunteering or attending Tuesday or Thursdsay night Life Groups will be able to register for this program. Please make sure that parents register their children for the grade they will be entering this upcoming Fall 2024.

Opportunity To Serve - Childcare for Family Weekend

Life Groups, our annual Family Weekend event is coming up this September, and we’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Mike Fabarez as the speaker. As part of this special weekend, we have a great opportunity to support families in the active stages of parenting by providing childcare during the event.
Childcare will be needed during the following times:

• Friday, September 19th from 6:15–8:45 p.m.

• Saturday, September 20th from 8:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m.

The more volunteers we have, the more we can rotate shifts—especially on Saturday—so each person’s serving time can be shorter. If you are not in the active stages of raising children and you're able to help with childcare, please fill out this form. If you are a Life Group leader who has a group full of people that can serve, perhaps this is a good way to serve as a Life Group during this weekend.

1. Read Matthew 5:43-45. Who comes to mind when you think of your enemies? What should it look like for you to pray for them? What kinds of things could you pray for them that would reflect the will of the Father?

2. Read 1 Timothy 2:1-2. Are there ways you might be tempted to use a “peaceful & quiet life” as a cover for compromise? What will be some of the bad effects of this kind of compromise?

3. On the other hand, how might you be tempted to not live the kind of “peaceful & quiet life” that this passage calls for? How will this negatively affect your witness?

4. Read 1 Timothy 2:4. What would it look like for your heart to match God’s desire for all to be saved? How should this desire affect your actions this week?

5. Spend time praying, making “supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings…for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions.”

Pray for Team Uganda as they leave Monday to lead Camp Compasses in Uganda. Pray for their safety, for God to soften the hearts of the kids coming to Camp Compass, for souls to be saved, and for Team Uganda to be an encouragement to the missionaries.

The Calm in the Storm
Mark 4:35-41

1. Read 1 Peter 4:12. Do life’s trials tend to catch you off guard? How can you cultivate the right expectations for the Christian life without being pessimistic? 

2. Out of the three subpoints about Christ’s character (Christ Knows, Christ Cares, Christ Can) which one is the hardest for you to put into practice? Share an example of a time when you failed to trust one of these truths in your life. 

3. Read Philippians 4:10–13. How can you grow to have more of this type of contentment in your life? Get practical with your answer, listing out actual steps you will take (Bible reading, prayer, fasting, serving, etc.) to grow in biblical contentment. 

4. Read Mark 4:40-41 again. How can you grow to know God more fully in the next six months? How do you think knowing God more fully will affect the way you trust Him? 

5. When do you find that anxiety is the highest in your life? Is there anything from this sermon that will help you pinpoint a biblical truth that you aren’t believing in practice when it comes to this area of anxiety?

1. Why is having the right expectations important in the Christian life? For instance, what difference will it make if you are expecting a spiritual battle instead of a walk in the park?

2. Read Ephesians 6:17-18. Why is it important to think of time in the Word and prayer as essential wartime duties? How can these practices be instrumental in building an active trust in God?

3. Read Proverbs 28:1. In addition to the picture presented in this verse, what are some of the benefits of a clean conscience and the consequences of a guilty conscience? What can you do to hold on to a “good conscience”?

4. Read Hebrews 3:12-13. What are some daily habits you can instill in your life to help bolster the faith of others? Why is this such an essential part of a healthy church community?

5. Read Galatians 6:1-2. How can you personally contribute to a church community that lives out these verses? What are some of the difficulties in bearing the burdens of others, and how can God’s grace help you overcome those?

Camp Compass Praise!

We had over 525 kids attend Camp Compass this year! The missions goal was to raise $10,000 for a new school in Pakistan. Not only did we reach that goal, we more than doubled it by raising $20,144! All glory be to God!

“Build My Church” Commitments

On Sunday, July 6th we will be announcing some exciting updates in light of all the commitments we’ve received to-date! We will be sharing about the commitments in all three areas we asked everyone to consider (Pray, Invest, Work). If you haven’t filled out a commitment card yet please fill out a physical card or digital form by the end of this weekend. Even if you’re unsure of your ability to make a long-term commitment, please do your best to commit to something in each category (we understand if your situation changes at some point in the next three years). We are all approaching the next three years prayerfully and with excitement for what the Lord will do!

Expectations For Summer Life Groups

I (Pastor Charlie) want to remind the Life Group leaders that, although the Summer might include a lighter schedule, we would like Life Groups to continue meeting. In other words, please don’t take the entire Summer off. Use this time to meet sporadically and increase the fellowship gatherings when possible. Fellowships can be something as simple as meeting at a park or doing something social together as a Life Group. A lot of groups take the month of August off to gear up for the fall, which is understandable given the church calendar and the rhythm of the other church ministries. But please find ways to connect and meet in July, even if it’s for just a few gatherings. The Adventure Club Life Groups have the remaining Kids Summer Series meetings as follows:

• Tuesdays: July 1, July 8, July 22.

• Thursdays: July 3, July 10, July 24.

I am so grateful for all the hard work that you put in as a Life Group leader! Thank you for continuing to care for the people in your group in such a big way. If you have any questions about the Summer or the schedule please don’t hesitate to reach out!

1. Read Psalm 100:1-3. How should remembering that we do not deserve the privilege of serving God help us to have attitudes like the one seen in this Psalm?
   

2. Read 1 Timothy 1:13-14. How would you describe the before & after of your own conversion to Christ? Why is it important to remember that this change is completely the result of grace?
   

3. Read Ephesians 2:1-7. Why is it important to remember that we needed more than “a little help” in our salvation? Why should we remember that we were dead and Christ made us alive? What difference should that make in our attitudes in the Christian life?
   

4. Read 1 Corinthians 15:8-9. Who are some people or types of people that you might think of as unlikely to get saved? How should Paul’s testimony influence the way you think and act toward them?
   

5. Read 1 Timothy 1:17. Write out your own doxology of worship to God as you consider his great salvation!

Pray for Camp Compass!

We have 524 kids registered (and counting) for Camp Compass this coming week! Please be in prayer (and reminder your Life Group to be in prayer) for all the teachers, leaders, and student helpers this week. Also pray that the gospel will be clearly communicated and that all of these young souls will be made “wise for salvation” and some would come to a saving faith!

Reminder: Deacon Meeting

Mark your calendars! We will have our next Deacon meeting on August 23rd from 6-8pm. Dinner will be included. Please let Pastor Charlie know if you can’t make this meeting. It will be good to gather together as we all prepare for the kickoff of the Fall calendar just a few weeks later.

1. Read Mark 3:33-34. How have you seen other believers function like family for you? What can you do to foster deep relationships like this in your own church?

2. Read Acts 20:28-30. Why is it important to be on guard against teachings that can lead you astray? What role should church leaders play in helping in these efforts?

3. Read 1 Timothy 1:4. What are some things you see Christians speculating about that may be a distraction from our gospel responsibilities? Now…be honest, what are some ways YOU might be tempted in these ways?

4. Read 1 Timothy 1:5. Why is it futile to pursue a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith in your own efforts/methods? Why can these things only be the result of a correct understanding of and response to the gospel?

5. Read Psalm 19:12-14. What will it look like for you approach God’s Word in the context of your local church with the humble attitude portrayed in this passage?

A Note on the Application Questions

If you review the application questions below, you will notice that some questions will give you the opportunity to discuss the "Build My Church" series that we just completed. Be sure to lead the group in a discussion that allows time for them to give feedback while also processing how God is convicting and encouraging them in light of what they will commit to pray, invest, and work in the years to come.

Pray for the Albania team! There is a young man (17) who is leaning into the gospel with the team. They are praying desperately for his salvation. He comes from a Muslim background, so be praying for him to have the courage to follow Jesus.

2. As Christians, we tend to lack ambition in our personal (and collective) ministry efforts and/or we lack open-handedness (we insist on our own way). Which one would you say you personally struggle with most? What steps can you take to grow in that area?

3. A.W. Tozer once said, “Every Christian should be looking to the Lord for something to do in the kingdom of God, and everyone ought to be asking God to honor him with a job too big for him.” What is something specific that you can do in the kingdom of God that is “too big” for you?

4. Read 1 Corinthians 15:56-58. Why should Christ’s victory over sin and death motivate and fuel our “work in the Lord”?

5. Work through each of the three “commitments” connected to the “Build My Church” initiative.

1. Read Hebrews 13:8. How does the truth of this verse help us to trust the promise of Jesus to build his church?

2. How should the perfection of our Savior help us to faithfully serve the church for our entire lifetime even though no church we attend will be perfect?

3. Read Hebrews 2:14-15. How can the fear of death hamper faithfulness to Christ and his mission? How should the removal of the fear of death free us to serve the King’s mission?

4. Read 1 Peter 5:8-11. How can we be rightfully concerned about our spiritual adversary (the devil) while also being confident and fearless because of Jesus and his promises?

1 Peter 4:7-11

1. Read 1 Peter 4:7. In light of the fact that “the end of all things is at hand,” are you currently serving the cause of Christ in the world that could be honestly characterized as “faithful”? What needs to be changed or improved or maintained for you to be found faithful?

2. Read 1 Thessalonians 2:19-20. What would it look like for you to cherish investing into other people like Paul does? How can you keep the souls of people at the forefront of your mind no matter what you are doing to serve the church as it works to reach, teach, and train?

3. Read 1 Peter 4:8. How might you be most tempted to grow tired of loving others? What could be some of the practical consequences of giving into these temptations? Think of one particular person or situation that might seem difficult to you and ask for God’s help in continuing to love earnestly.

4. Find a “one another” command in the New Testament that you would like to grow more faithful in obeying. What will that obedience look like in your life?

5. Read 1 Peter 4:11. How are you currently working to build up the body of Christ? What will it look like for you to do that in the ways described by this verse?

This is another “Build My Church” that is good to share with your Life Group. On May 22 we will host a special evening focused on how to wisely invest in the cause of Christ through the local church. We will look at how to creatively, legally, and advantageously contribute assets like stock, real estate, and other investments to initiatives like "Build My Church." 2. Read 2 Corinthians 9:6. What could the principles of this verse look like in your life? For you, what would sowing sparingly versus sowing bountifully look like? What could reaping sparingly versus reaping bountifully look like?

3. Read Genesis 4:3-5 & Hebrews 11:4. What can you learn from Abel’s “acceptable sacrifice” and how does that apply to how you should practice generosity?

4. Read Philippians 4:19. How would your life look most different if you lived with perfect faith in what this verse says?

5. Spend extra time praying that the “Build My Church” initiative glorifies God through discipleship that impacts multiple generations.

1. Read John 15:5 & 14:12-14. Think about the long-term impact of prayerlessness versus prayerfulness. What difference could faithful prayer make in your life, your family, your church, and your community?

2. Think of some of the more difficult circumstances in your life, what are some clear things you could ask the Father for in Jesus’ name based on his promises, his character, and his commands?

3. What would it look like for more of your prayers to be focused on eternal and spiritual things instead of just temporal or physical things?
