How to Serve at Family Weekend
Guest Preacher This Weekend

Important Info:

  • How to Serve at Family Weekend - For life groups with members that are not in the actively-raising-children stage, we ask that you help serve with childcare for Friday night and Saturday morning. Please have anyone willing to serve in this capacity fill out this form. We want to ensure that we can provide childcare to everyone who needs it so that everyone who wants to attend Family Weekend can.

    • We think the easiest way to serve these parents with childcare is to serve with the Kids Min team at The Pursuit facility during the event. This will allow you to work with the age range that makes the most sense for your physical abilities/limitations. It will be easier for our Kids Min team to track our volunteers and how many we still need.

  • Guest Preacher This Weekend - Pastor PJ Berner will be here this weekend to guest preach! He will be the Senior Pastor of Compass Bible Church North Texas, launching in the Fall of 2023.

Application Questions:

Summer in the Psalms
The Prayer of the Needy
Psalm 86

  1. Read Psalm 139:13-16. How does this passage help us when we are tempted to turn to something or someone else for comfort in times of trials?

  2. Read Psalm 16:11 and Revelation 21:1-7. How do passages like this help us have the right perspective on the trials facing us right now? What are some other passages you like to remember when you are facing difficult seasons in life?

  3. Read Romans 8:28-29. According to verse 29, what is the good that God is working all things together for in our lies? How does this help us understand God’s purpose for our suffering and the trials we face?

  4. What are some principles or truths about God that you have learned from times of neediness that are important to carry over into the easier times in our lives?

If you are going to be attending this class, please register here. If you are already registered, encourage others to join you!

  • Reminder: Register for an Evangelism Saturday - Don't forget to sign up your Life Group for a Saturday to go door-to-door between now and the end of October. • Moving Church Locations - We want you to be the first to know that we are in the process of completing an agreement to move our church services to Heritage Middle School. Also, this move will mean we will return to just two Sunday services with no more Saturday night services. We'll keep you posted! This exciting opportunity will allow our church to grow immensely (double the adults and children), and we eagerly anticipate God's work in and through our church.

Application Questions:

Summer in the Psalms

We are also continuing with our Men’s Ministry Track, an intense two-year training program for men who desire to be leaders in the church. To learn more about all three, go to https://www.compassbible.tv/classroom. Be sure to pass these registrations on to anyone you think would be interested.

We look forward to this time together!

Application Questions:

Summer in the Psalms
When There is No Happy Ending
Psalm 88

  1. Read Psalm 13. Why do think we often want to rush toward the happy/positive ending without really wrestling with the intense suffering described in this Psalm?

  2. Read James 1:2-4. How have you seen God use suffering to refine you? How can that help build your trust for future trials, even when you can’t tell what their purpose is?

  3. As you consider the intense suffering described in Psalm 88, how can this study help you as you seek to come alongside those who may feel that they are in a similar place to this Psalmist?

  4. Read Job 3:9-10. Job refuses to use his immense suffering as an excuse to curse God. What are some things you need to be careful to not excuse even though you are suffering?

Select an Evangelism Saturday
Deacon Meeting at Stone Crossing
Care Ministry Launching Next Week

Important Info:

  • Select an Evangelism Saturday - Please use this form to select a Saturday for your Life Group to go Door to Door. As previously mentioned, we would like each of our Life Groups to go out door-to-door one Saturday between now and the end of October. Please view the available dates and select one that works best for your group. Also, there can be multiple groups that go out on one weekend! Be sure to remind your group that when they go out they can observe someone else do the talking (perhaps this will take the edge off and get more participation in this event). This is a chance for them to get trained and grow in confidence as they share their faith.

  • Deacon Meeting at Stone Crossing - On Sunday, July 17th, we will be gathering together for our mid-summer hangout. We will enjoy some fellowship and dinner and then discuss multiplication. We will meet from 5:30pm-8pm at Stone Crossing, 9600 W Brookside Ln, Boise, ID 83714. We look forward to this time together!

  • Care Ministry Launching Next Week - Next week, we are launching our Care Ministry, led by our very own Joe & Cindy Wigton. Welcome them to the Deacon team! This ministry will help address the need for prayer support and encouragement and the practical needs of the saints at Compass Bible Church Treasure Valley. Please be praying for this ministry to aid the people of CBCTV.

Application Questions:

Summer in the Psalms
Fair or Pharisaical?
Psalm 26

  1. Read Psalm 27:4, 8. What is the difference between merely going through the motions of things like personal devotions or corporate worship and doing those same things with the heart expressed in these verses?

  2. Consider Psalm 27:4 again. What other things in your life might compete with the “one thing” or ultimate priority that is expressed in this passage? Why are those things not as worthy of your attention and affections as true worship of God?

  3. Read James 4:6-10. How have you seen a lack of integrity negatively affect your intimacy with God? On the other hand, how have you seen God be gracious and draw near to you as you draw near to him? How can that rightly be a motive for integrity in your life?

  4. Read Psalm 26:11-12. What are some of the ways whole-hearted devotion to God brings security and “level ground” in this life? What are some of the troubles this way of living can protect you from?

  5. Read Psalm 26:1-3. As you think about your own accountability to God, in what ways does that encourage you? In what ways are you challenged?

Adventure Club Replacing Awana
Encourage Young Families to Serve
Get Your Guys to the Men’s Event

Important Info:

  • Adventure Club Replacing Awana - This Fall, we will be changing the curriculum for our Thursday night program from Awana to Adventure Club! This change allows us to continue to teach/memorize the Word of God to our kids each week while improving the curriculum and support materials simultaneously. If you're interested in reviewing the Adventure Club, you can view it here.

  • Encourage Young Families to Serve - Often those with young families are hesitant to be at church for two services in order to serve in a ministry like Kids Min. Be sure to encourage them, reminding them that serving is both a command and a blessing and that God will provide for their young family! All of us who have trusted God in those seasons can speak firsthand to the blessings of "getting in the game" and not sitting out based on fear or over-thinking our capacity. Please continue to talk to anyone in your Life Groups or ministry/friend groups who aren’t currently serving (or have more capacity to serve) about considering Kids Ministry.

  • Get Your Guys to the Men’s Event - Next Saturday the men will be gathering for the 2nd part of our series titled “Humility.” As a reminder, this series is designed to lead us up to the Men’s Retreat titled “Victory” that we’ll be attending in late October. The more men that we can get to all of these events the more opportunities we’ll have to see God’s Word work mightily in the lives of Compass Men to see victory over the sins that are most common to men. Be sure to send the link for this event out to the men in your group!

Application Questions:

Summer in the Psalms
What To Do When We Have Failed
Psalm 51

  1. Read Psalm 51:3-4. What are some ways you might be tempted to downplay the
seriousness of your own sin? Identify any sins in your own life where you may make
excuses for your sin or view it as “not that big of a deal”.

  2. Identify at least three verses/passages that highlight the forgiving nature of God. How
do these passages encourage you to look to God for mercy and to anticipate the joy
    that comes along with forgiveness?

  3. Read 2 Corinthians 7:10-11. If you are truly seeking inward change and a renewed
spirit, what kind of attitudes and actions should you expect to see in your own life after
    you have confessed your sins?

  4. Read 2 Corinthians 5:20-21. Both humility and boldness are required to make the kind
of appeal described in this passage. How would you like to see more of each of these
    qualities in your evangelism?

  5. Read Psalm 51:18-19. How can the sin of an individual negatively affect a group? How
can this thought make a difference in your own pursuit of sanctification?

Do you naturally lean one of those two directions? What are some things we should consider to make sure we are avoiding both of these errors?

    • Tuesday Night Life Groups: We will continue to meet with Plants & Pillars throughout the Summer. Feel free to take breaks at your discretion (or follow the same pattern as the Thursday night groups). See the Awana Schedule.

    • All Other Groups: Feel free to take breaks at your discretion (or follow the same pattern as the Thursday night groups). See the Awana Schedule.

Application Questions:

Biblical Behavior
Rescuing the Deceived From Death
James 5:19-20

  1. Read Matthew 7:1-5. Observing the behavior of other professing Christians can be a delicate situation. How can you be a “fruit inspector” while not being so presumptuous to be a “salvation inspector?” Discuss approaches that have worked well when discussing fruit with other professing Christians and approaches that have not worked.

  2. Read James 5:19-20. Have you ever considered that there might be professing Christians inside the church who are not true believers? How might this change how you approach new relationships in the church?

  3. Read 2 Corinthians 5:16–21. Although we are called to be ambassadors for Christ, imploring the lost to be reconciled to Christ, how can we be tender in our approach to this task? Why is it even more important to be tender when approaching a professing Christian whose behavior is not biblical? (Hint: We don’t have the privilege of knowing what’s in their heart.)

  4. Read Romans 6:23. Why is it important for us to feel the weight of the reality of hell? Have you experienced the joy of seeing someone get saved? If so, explain the height of that joy in contrast to the weight of despair they would have experienced in hell. (Here are a few other references to Hell in the NT: Matt. 13:40, 42, 50; 25:41, 46; Mark 9:43–49; 2 Thess. 1:8–9; Rev. 20:11–15; 21:8)

  5. Review the 13 tests that James has given throughout his entire epistle. Are there any tests that you have failed? As a believer, have these tests revealed areas where you need to grow in sanctification? Have these tests shown that you are deceived and need to repent and truly trust Christ? If so, discuss this reality with a leader or pastor.

We Need Ignite Counselors
Guest Worship Leader Next Weekend

Important Info:

  • We Need Ignite Counselors - We’re praying that this year’s Ignite Youth Camp is the biggest and best yet! Because this camp is so big, we need extra counselors to attend. Please let us know (email charlie@compassbible.tv) if you or anyone you know would be able to serve as a counselor from June 8th through the 11th (Wednesday morning through Saturday morning). The best candidates to serve in this position are married couples without any small children so that they can go up together and each serve the guys/girls respectively.

  • Guest Worship Leader Next Weekend - You’ll notice a guest leading worship next weekend. His name is Jonathan Broadworth, and he’s a candidate for a worship position. Be praying for him and his wife as they visit CBCTV next weekend!

Application Questions:

Paradise
What It Will Be Like & Who Will Be There
Revelation 21:1-8

  1. Read Psalm 27:4, 8. How does your life reflect an anticipation of God’s unfiltered presence right now? How does thinking more about perfect fellowship with God in heaven motivate you to pursue him this week?

  2. Read Revelation 22:1-5. As you consider this passage and other passages that teach about heaven, what are some of the things you are most looking forward to? Think both about the kinds of things that will be there, as well as the things that will not.

  3. Read Colossians 3:1-4. The gravity of daily life seems to pull our focus down to the things of earth. As you go through the hustle and bustle of another week, how can you increasingly set your mind on the things above?

  4. Read 1 Corinthians 6:9-11. None of us deserve to inherit the kingdom of God. What are some of the specific ways reflecting on this passage and the undeserved glories of heaven make you more thankful for what you will experience there?

  5. Read Revelations 21:6-8. How do these verses inspire you to choose Christ and stand for him over and against the world? How will that resolve be put to the test this month?

Can You Personally Request Eggstravaganza Volunteers?
Taking off Life Groups During Easter Week
Compass Classroom Next Semester
Our Weekend Parking Situation

Important Info:

  • Can You Personally Request Eggstravaganza Volunteers? - We still have volunteer needs during the Eggstravaganza event, especially at 12:00pm and 12:30pm at the face painting, inflatables, and sensory station posts. Will you send a message out to your Life Group or ministry with this link for them to sign up?

  • Taking off Life Groups During Easter Week - Since we are broadcasting Resurrection Week Live (RWL) from Sunday through Thursday at 8pm, we recommend that you take the week off from meeting together as a Life Group or meet to watch RWL together!

  • Compass Classroom Next Semester - We will be announcing other classes for the Summer semester soon. Today we're excited to announce that on 5/8, we will begin a study of the Minor Prophets on Sundays at 9am in the cafeteria.

  • Our Weekend Parking Situation - We're frequently running out of parking at the 11am service, and sometimes we're getting close at the 9am service. If you are able (physically) to park farther away (at the school over next to Locust Grove), will you do so? That will help free up spaces for guests who visit us each weekend. Thanks!

Application Questions:

Paradise
How Paradise Was Lost
Genesis 3

  1. Read 2 Corinthians 11:3. What are some of the ways your thoughts are being led astray from devotion to Christ? What are some of the lies you encounter that try to tell you that God is withholding what is good/best from you?

  2. Read Genesis 3:4-5. Satan directly counters the Word of God! What are some ways you may be tempted to doubt God’s Word? On the other hand, how can you use God’s Word to counter your temptations?

  3. Read Romans 6:15-19. What are some ways you have seen sin lead to compounding consequences and slavery in your own life? How have you seen God graciously work through righteous deeds to reverse the effects of the curse in your life? How can that motivate you towards righteousness this week?

  4. Read Genesis 3:15. Especially as we begin Resurrection Week, what hope does the promise of this verse bring to you? What are some other Scriptures that speak of God reversing the curse that you will meditate on this week as you celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ?

  5. Spend some extra time praying that God would work through the events of this week to glorify Jesus Christ, to build up the saints, and to bring lost souls to salvation.
