Pastor Josiah Is Coming
Community Event Contact

Important Info:

  • Pastor Josiah Is Coming - Some of you may have heard the news that Pastor Josiah will officially be part of the pastoral team at CBCTV, and he will also be the new leader of Plants & Pillars! Pastor Josiah starts in late May, giving him time to take the reigns from Pastor Charlie to lead Plants & Pillars at Ignite as the official Youth Pastor. Let’s praise God for providing the right man in His perfect timing!

  • Community Event Contact - We’ve been getting some questions about the upcoming Harvest Crusade downtown. We will not officially be promoting the event as we will be focused on Easter, Ignite, and the National Equipped Conference, but if you encounter people who are asking or interested in serving, you can point them to Laing Stevens, a member of our church who will be serving at the event. coachla@mac.com // 208-805-2985

What Wisdom Can and Can't Do
Ecclesiastes 7:11-29

  1. Read Psalm 46:10. Some translations use the phrase “cease striving” at the beginning of the verse. What are some of the ways you need to “be still” or “cease striving” in your own thoughts as you yield to the wisdom of the Lord?

  2. Read Ecclesiastes 7:14. In addition to what is said here, what would be some helpful things to “consider” in the day of adversity? Find some specific verses that would be helpful to dwell on in those times.

  3. Read Proverbs 2:11. How much do you think that you honestly value wisdom? What would it look like to value wisdom more than you do? What are some ways you have seen wisdom preserve and protect you?

  4. Read Ephesians 4:1-3. These verses remind us that humility (and not self-righteousness) should characterize true Christian unity. What are some of the ways you might be tempted to be self-righteous in relationships with others? What are some ways you could be humbler and more gracious?

  5. What are some of the foolish schemes of the world that might appear tempting to you? While these things may appeal to the flesh, how does wisdom help us to see that they are actually destructive? What are some verses you will meditate on this week to remind you of these truths?

  • Office Moving Helpers Needed - The church is moving offices on Wednesday, March 2nd. Can all of your Life Group leaders tell your groups about this serving opportunity? For more info, contact Chris Hernandez at chris@compassbible.tv.

  • Kids Care Help Needed On Tuesday Nights - During Plants & Pillars on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30, we offer kids care for those with children who serve or attend a Life Group during that time. Getting the Most Out of the Mist
Busy With Joy
Ecclesiastes 5:8-6:9

  1. Read Ecclesiastes 5:10-11. Even though a simple glance at the lifestyles of the rich and the famous in our own day should prove that more wealth does not equal more happiness, why do you suppose it is still so easy for us to fall into that trap?

  2. Read Proverbs 23:4-5. What are some of the ways you have seen in your own experience the fleeting nature of wealth? How should this help us think differently about wealth as Christians?

  3. Read Ecclesiastes 5:18-20. Notice how frequently this passage refers to God! What are some of the theological truths you need to dwell on more in order to be content and enjoy God’s daily gifts?

  4. What are some of the physical/circumstantial things in your life that you want to more intentionally savor this week? What are some of the spiritual blessings that you want to meditate on more?

  5. Read Ecclesiastes 5:9. What are some of the ways your appetite might be tempted to wander instead of being content with what your eyes can see? Is there any situation or circumstance in your life right now that you might look back at someday and regret missing out the good God had for you in that season because you were too busy desiring something else?

We Passed 1 Million

Important Info:

  • We Passed 1 Million - The Taking Ground project has officially passed $1,000,000 raised! We will share this news with the congregation today and tomorrow while also asking them to pray even more as we continue to trust the Lord for His provision. Here are the prayers we’ll be putting in front of the church:

    • Praise God for all of the ways he has already provided for CBCTV and Taking Ground.

    • Pray that God would open the right door at the right time for a full-time facility.

    • Pray that God would provide all of the funds to acquire land and/or a building.

    • Pray for favor with landowners, city officials, and any others who will be involved in this process.

    • Pray for wisdom for leaders in this church as they make decisions regarding future facilities.

    • Pray that God would continue to provide space for ministry until a full-time facility is acquired.

    • Pray that we would focus more on the goal of making disciples than the means of a facility.

    • Pray that God would use this facility to reach more people in the community with the gospel.

    • Pray for a facility that is optimally designed to be used for fellowship and teaching that will help people grow in Christlikeness.

    • Pray that God would use this facility as a launchpad for other church plants.

Application Questions:

Getting the Most Out of the Mist
Ecclesiastes Goes to Church

  1. Think through the different ways that were discussed about how me might “play games with God”. Which of these do you need to be most wary of? How will a proper view of God help you combat these specific temptations?

  2. What are some of the ways you might start to mindlessly go through the motions? How can that cause spiritual problems in your own life, and how can you work to be intentional and thoughtful in the various spiritual activities in your life?

  3. Read Matthew 5:3. How can spiritual arrogance creep into your heart and mind? How can you direct your heart back to this position of being “poor in Spirit”?

  4. Read Hebrews 12:28-29. How might your reverence and awe for God be tempted to fade as you go about your Christian life? What from both Ecclesiastes 5 and Hebrews 12 can help you renew those attitudes in your walk with God?

  5. Read Psalm 130:3-4. How does a right reverence for God actually lead to a greater appreciation for his grace? Choose one verse that emphasizes the grace of God to meditate on this week.

2021 Reimbursements
Plants & Pillars Parent's Nights

Important Info:

  • 2021 Reimbursements - For those of you who have purchased items for ministry supplies and need to get reimbursed, please make sure those receipts are in by 1/15/22 for anything purchased in 2021. We close our books after January, and you may not be able to receive a reimbursement after this date.

  • Plants & Pillars Parent's Nights - During the typical Plants & Pillars time (6:30-8:30pm), while the students meet at Doral Academy, Pastor Charlie will talk to the dads on 1/8 and the moms on 1/15. That means that any dads or moms that attend Tuesday night Life Groups will have to miss that week. Feel free to change groups that week to split up men and women if that makes the most sense. It's up to you, Life Group leaders! But please encourage the parents in your group to attend these parent's nights.

Application Questions:

Biblical Behavior
Promising God’s Way
James 5:12

  1. Read James 5:12 and Matthew 5:34–37. Based on your sermon notes, why do you think Jesus and James were so concerned with their audience taking oaths? What might the equivalent of those concerns look like in our modern-day?

  2. After studying James 5:12, will the commitments and promises you make carry more weight? How will this change how you make commitments to your spouse, children, coworkers, and fellow believers in the church?

  3. Read Romans 1:9. When you make promises to men, are you conscious that you’re simultaneously making that commitment to God? How can you grow to be more aware that your word is ultimately linked to God’s name when you carry the title of Christian?

  4. As a Christian, you should have the type of reputation that others see a contract with you as a formality because your word is valuable. Do you have that reputation? How can you grow to have a better reputation for integrity among fellow believers and the world?

  5. Spend some time with a spouse or another believer who is a close friend. Ask each other this: “Is my word valuable? When I say I’ll do something, do I follow through? How do you think I can grow in this area?” Spend some time discussing both of your answers, and then pray for God to grow you to be more like Christ continually in the area of integrity.

For example, they may have a specific sin that they need to “put off” that requires more time to create an organized plan. We now have a more formal process to provide that here at CBCTV. You can refer them to this link to fill out their information and request an appointment. We will also put this link in the permanent links if you need it in the future.
