Putting Ecclesiastes To Work
Ecclesiastes 11:1-6
Read Ecclesiastes 3:9-13. What are some current situations in your life where the providence of God is particularly
encouraging to you? How should this reality change your outlook on the situation?Read Ecclesiastes 10:8 & 11:4. The first verse warns us about the dangers of being too hasty in our work, while the second warns us about being too cautious in our work. Do you naturally lean one of those two directions? What are some things we should consider to make sure we are avoiding both of these errors?
Read Ecclesiastes 11:6. As you consider this verse, in what area of your life/work would you most like to be more diligent? What will more diligence in that area look like?
Read Colossians 4:5-6. How do you think you could be more industrious with the current evangelistic opportunities in your life? How could you make more of the opportunities God has brought your way?
As we begin to close up Ecclesiastes, how has studying this book changed/refreshed your perspective on life? How should these changes specifically affect your outlook on your “work,” whatever that may be?

Application Questions:
Biblical Behavior
Rescuing the Deceived From Death
James 5:19-20
Read Matthew 7:1-5. Observing the behavior of other professing Christians can be a delicate situation. How can you be a “fruit inspector” while not being so presumptuous to be a “salvation inspector?” Discuss approaches that have worked well when discussing fruit with other professing Christians and approaches that have not worked.
Read James 5:19-20. Have you ever considered that there might be professing Christians inside the church who are not true believers? How might this change how you approach new relationships in the church?
Read 2 Corinthians 5:16–21. Although we are called to be ambassadors for Christ, imploring the lost to be reconciled to Christ, how can we be tender in our approach to this task? Why is it even more important to be tender when approaching a professing Christian whose behavior is not biblical? (Hint: We don’t have the privilege of knowing what’s in their heart.)
Read Romans 6:23. Why is it important for us to feel the weight of the reality of hell? Have you experienced the joy of seeing someone get saved? If so, explain the height of that joy in contrast to the weight of despair they would have experienced in hell. (Here are a few other references to Hell in the NT: Matt. 13:40, 42, 50; 25:41, 46; Mark 9:43–49; 2 Thess. 1:8–9; Rev. 20:11–15; 21:8)
Review the 13 tests that James has given throughout his entire epistle. Are there any tests that you have failed? As a believer, have these tests revealed areas where you need to grow in sanctification? Have these tests shown that you are deceived and need to repent and truly trust Christ? If so, discuss this reality with a leader or pastor.

Is Life Really Meaningless?
Ecclesiastes 1:1–11
As you think through Ecclesiastes 1:1-11 and the brutally honest picture it presents of life in this world, how could accepting these realities actually benefit your life? What are some of the wrong ways people might try to apply these realities to their own lives?
What are some of the ways you might be tempted to pretend these realities aren’t true, and how could that negatively affect your life?
Read Ecclesiastes 1:3 & Matthew 6:19-21. What are some ways you might be tempted to put too much focus on the material things in this world? Why is it helpful to be reminded of how fleeting those things are?
Read Ecclesiastes 1:10. What are some of the negative effects that always chasing something “new” can have? How might you be tempted to think this way?
Read 1 Corinthians 15:58. Even though the Preacher in Ecclesiastes cries out that “All is vanity!“, how is it encouraging to know that your service to God will NOT be in vain?

2021 Reimbursements
Plants & Pillars Parent's Nights
Important Info:
2021 Reimbursements - For those of you who have purchased items for ministry supplies and need to get reimbursed, please make sure those receipts are in by 1/15/22 for anything purchased in 2021. We close our books after January, and you may not be able to receive a reimbursement after this date.
Plants & Pillars Parent's Nights - During the typical Plants & Pillars time (6:30-8:30pm), while the students meet at Doral Academy, Pastor Charlie will talk to the dads on 1/8 and the moms on 1/15. That means that any dads or moms that attend Tuesday night Life Groups will have to miss that week. Feel free to change groups that week to split up men and women if that makes the most sense. It's up to you, Life Group leaders! But please encourage the parents in your group to attend these parent's nights.

Biblical Behavior
Promising God’s Way
James 5:12
Read James 5:12 and Matthew 5:34–37. Based on your sermon notes, why do you think Jesus and James were so concerned with their audience taking oaths? What might the equivalent of those concerns look like in our modern-day?
After studying James 5:12, will the commitments and promises you make carry more weight? How will this change how you make commitments to your spouse, children, coworkers, and fellow believers in the church?
Read Romans 1:9. When you make promises to men, are you conscious that you’re simultaneously making that commitment to God? How can you grow to be more aware that your word is ultimately linked to God’s name when you carry the title of Christian?
As a Christian, you should have the type of reputation that others see a contract with you as a formality because your word is valuable. Do you have that reputation? How can you grow to have a better reputation for integrity among fellow believers and the world?
Spend some time with a spouse or another believer who is a close friend. Ask each other this: “Is my word valuable? When I say I’ll do something, do I follow through? How do you think I can grow in this area?” Spend some time discussing both of your answers, and then pray for God to grow you to be more like Christ continually in the area of integrity.

Read Ephesians 3:20-21. Why is it so easy to get to a place where you are expecting “just another Sunday” at church? How should the truths of this passage affect your expectations and how will that affect your preparation for next weekend at church?
What are the biggest distractions you face on a weekly basis during the preaching of God’s Word? What can you do to minimize those?
How could you be more of an “active” listener during preaching?
Read James 1:22-25. As you consider your response to regular preaching, how could you be a more faithful “doer” rather than just a “hearer”?
