Let's continue to praise God for the relationship He's provided with the leadership at Pathways Middle School.

  • Reminder: Deacon Retreat - A few new Deacons are receiving Dispatch this week, so this is an announcement and a reminder! We are currently planning a Deacon Retreat for February 4th and 5th. The retreat will not be overnight. Save the date, and more information is to come!

  2. How does God’s power displayed through fulfilled prophecy increase your confidence in his power? Choose some prophecies about Jesus’ incarnation to focus on this Christmas.

  3. Read 2 Corinthians 4:7. What are some of the ways you have seen this to be true in your own life? How have you seen God being glorified even when you felt weak or insufficient for the task ahead?

  4. Read Luke 1:38. What keeps you from offering yourself humbly and willingly as God’s servant like Mary does in this passage? What from her example encourages you to submit to the will of God?

Helpful CBCTV Statistics

Important Info:

    • 85% of the adults are registered for Life Groups

    • 49% of the adults are serving somewhere at Compass

  • We would love to see the percentage serving go higher! Life Group Leaders, will you work to get a pulse on who is and isn't serving in your group and encourage those who are not to jump in? As a growing church with many new souls, we will need the percentage to be higher so that the body can function at full health! We always need more people to help with setup/teardown if your group members are looking for a simple place to start and make a high impact.

Failure And Faithfulness
John 18:12-27

  1. Read Psalm 2. How do the realities that God is sovereign over wicked rulers, that he can even turn their wicked schemes for good, and that he will someday judge the world help your perspective this week as you live in a world full of rulers that reject God and his ways?

  2. Read 1 Corinthians 10:12. What are some ways you may tend to overestimate your own spiritual strength? How could your prayer life reflect a greater humble dependence on God?

  3. Read 1 Peter 3:15-17. How prepared do you feel to make a defense for the hope that is in you? This passage also makes it clear that the world should have no just reason to persecute Christians. What are some important ways Christians need to make sure our witness is unstained before the world? (Note for Life Group Leaders: This is not a call to defend every single point of Christian doctrine or master every aspect of apologetics, and make sure your group understands that. But EVERY Christian should be able to defend the gospel and the reason why we hope.)

  4. Read 1 Peter 2:23. What can you learn from the example of Jesus and how he responded even when treated unjustly? Even if you are not experiencing persecution right now, how can you avoid attitudes that might cause you to “revile” others?

  5. Read 2 Corinthians 7:8-11. What are some of the differences between godly grief and worldly grief? How do you see those differences in Peter and Judas? How have you seen them at work in their own life?

  • Watch the Video on Multiplication - Two weeks ago we uploaded a video that elaborates a bit on what the process of raising up new leaders and multiplying life groups should look like. Your group may be going through this process sooner than you think, so make sure you are informed video link (and below).

Childcare for Family Weekend

Servants for Tuesday and Thursday Nights

Important Info:

  • Watch the Video on Multiplication - Last week we uploaded a video that elaborates a bit on what the process of raising up new leaders and multiplying life groups should look like. Your group may be going through this process sooner than you think, so make sure you are informed. Video link

  • Childcare for Family Weekend - As predicted, the spots went fast! We are encouraging people to join a waitlist as we expect that we will be able to open up some more spots. However, we would still encourage you develop creative solutions with your group!

  • Servants for Tuesday and Thursday Nights - New people are continuing to join our church, and they have a LOT of kids. Plants & Pillars on Tuesdays and AWANA on Thursdays are continuing to grow, and it is so exciting to serve these families and teach the word to these children! However, the growing numbers require growing teams of servants! For Thursdays, we are looking for more people to serve in AWANA. For Tuesdays, we could use some people who could serve (even on a rotating basis) in childcare for the life groups that meet at the same school as Plants & Pillars and for some of the leaders in that ministry. Please highlight these opportunities for your groups! For AWANA, you can sign-up online (https://compassbibletv.churchcenter.com/people/forms/216719). For Tuesday nights, contact keegan@compassbible.tv

  • Save the Date for the Women’s Retreat - It’s official, the Women’s retreat will be November 12-13! Save the date for now, and more information along with the registration will be available soon. Will you pass these dates along to your group so that they can save the date?

  • Non-Thursday Life Groups We Need Help in Awana - Last night was the first night of Awana, and WOW… there were a LOT of kids. We could still use more leaders! For all of you non-Thursday night Life Groups, will you personally ask your group if anyone can serve in this capacity? If they can, please direct them to Morgan Lee morgan@compassbible.tv.

John 17:1-5

1. Reread John 17:1. When you encounter suffering, what are some of the things that keep you from prayer, and what are the reasons that some of our prayers are not focused on God’s glory? How can looking at Jesus’ prayer here help you as you pray in the face of difficult times?

2. Read Isaiah 26:8. What are some of the desires of your soul that might compete with God’s name, remembrance, and honor? What will it look like for your life to be consumed in greater measure by God’s honor?

3. Reread John 17:3. What are some of the benefits of this eternal life here and now? How does that motivate you to tell others about this life?

4. Read Colossians 1:24. If you are faithful to serve God’s mission here on earth, what are some of the ways that might look like “filling up what is lacking in Chris’s afflictions”? Why will suffering for the sake of the gospel ultimately be worth it?

5. Read Romans 8:34. Wow! The risen, exalted Son of God is at the right hand of the Father interceding for believers! What encouragement does that bring to you this week?

God will bless that attitude, and we will be a witness of God’s love to the staff!

  • New Awana Schedule -If you meet on Thursday nights as a Life Group you may want to print this off or copy and paste the schedule and send it to your group. Or you may want to reference the new Awana schedule for other reasons, either way, you can find it here!

Application Questions

Biblical Behavior - Growing in Humility
James 4:7-12

  1. Our working definition for humility is, “A correct view of your own importance.” Which of the ten descriptions of humility do you need to grow in the most? How will you pursue that growth?

  2. Read Matthew 4:7-11. It’s clear that God has given us the Bible to fight off temptation. Why is it so hard sometimes for us to rely on the power of the Word more than human wisdom and solutions? Where have you seen this struggle in your own life?

  3. Why is humility an essential attribute of the Christian life? How can you grow in humility towards others in the church?

  4. Read Mark 14:72. Why is it so important to have a biblical view of and response to sin? How regularly do you confess your sin to God or fellow believers? Why or why not?

  5. Read Luke 6:25. Are there any areas of life where you are seeking temporal comforts or pleasures too much? How can you grow in delayed gratification, seeking the pleasures of the next life more than this one? Why does focusing too much on this life show a lack of humility?

Limited childcare will be provided (more to come). On Saturday, the men will hear a message on marriage in the early morning and the women in the late morning. Then on Sunday, we will have a church-wide picnic where families can eat, play games, and fellowship with the church. Save the date! This is going to be a really fun and encouraging weekend.

  • Guest Preacher This Sunday! - Pastor Kent Dresdow is coming to town. He is the Senior Pastor of NorthCreek Church in Walnut Creek California. Please be praying for Pastor Kent as he travels here to bless us with a teaching from the Word of God! See his application questions below.

  • Put the Men’s Event on the Radar - The final session of our Be Prepared series is coming up in a few weeks.
