Discovery Way Move Timelines
Class on Physical Illness, Mental Illness, & Drugs
July Kids Program @ Discovery Way!

Discovery Way Move Timelines

We will be using next week to prepare the building for our first service on July 7th. Below is a timeline of the activity throughout next week.

Monday 7/1

  • Volunteers are welcome to be in the building after 9AM and in any Kids space thru the evening

  • Eddie Urquiza will be carpet cleaning the Auditorium. Only the Auditorium will be off limits all day but dry by Tuesday.

  • Working to gather a team to repair broken toilets in the late-morning, early afternoon. Handymen with plumbing experience are welcome to help (probably only need 6 guys to help here)

  • In the late afternoon the bookstore team will setup their location (where the current coffee bar is)

  • Any volunteers that are in the building can focus on removing decor, patching walls, throwing away trash, cleaning out trash cans, deep cleaning spaces etc.

Tuesday 7/2

  • Volunteers are welcome to be in the building after 10AM

  • Evening - Hernandez life group will meet to setup auditorium for church on Sunday

  • Kids Min - I'd love if we could get the two teaching spaces setup with whatever chairs, tables, blue panels etc. or at least an idea of what you want setup so that it can be done on Wednesday.

  • Tech team can get into auditorium to mount cameras or work on any other items anytime Tuesday through Saturday

Wednesday 7/3

  • Dumpster day - a crew of volunteers to discard unnecessary items and bulky trash pieces

  • Finish deep cleaning bathroom counters, vacuum kids spaces and setup kids rooms (except infant/toddler spaces)

Thursday 7/4

  • No work unless misc teams want to get into building (kids, connect, hospitality etc)

Friday 7/5

  • Eddie will be back on site for carpet cleaning in lobby, first kids min hallway and the infant/toddler rooms so the main entrance will be off limits. Any work being done on this day should enter from the back of the building by the office, or the side of the building in the courtyard (into the lower elementary room)

Saturday 7/6

  • Carpets will be dry by the morning. Kids min team will get in and finish setup of the infant toddler rooms. The rest of the building should be done by this point so minimal work would be needed.

Class on Physical Illness, Mental Illness, & Drugs

You're all invited to a Biblical Counseling re-teach of Physical Illness, Mental Illness, and Drugs at 11am this Sunday in the library. It was recorded improperly the first time so I (Pastor Charlie) wanted to re-teach it and invite all of you Deacons to attend the class if the subject interests you.

July Kids Program @ Discovery Way!

Our Summer Series Kids Program (and the Life Groups with them) will be meeting at the new building throughout the month of July, starting on Tuesday July 9/ Thursday July 11. We will have Life Group locations forthcoming - we are still finalizing those. Be sure that your Life Group members know the Tuesday and Thursday groups will be meeting at Discovery Way starting July!

Application Questions:

The Footsteps of Faith
Guided By God’s Character
Genesis 24

APPLICATION QUESTIONS

  1. Read Exodus 34:6-7. Note how central “steadfast love” and “faithfulness” are to God’s revelation of his own character. Find some other verses that highlight these attributes. Why are these attributes so important as a foundation for our lives?

  2. What are some ways you might be tempted to compromise convictions because of a lack of trust that God will provide? What are some specific verses you can meditate on to strengthen your resolve to follow God?

  3. Read 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18. What are some of the reasons you may neglect to ask God for help when you need it or remember to praise him when he gives help? Why is it important to connect both your prayer and praise to the character of God?

  4. Can you think of any ways you have seen the providence of God at work in your life lately that might be encouraging to someone else? Who will you share that with this week?

  5. Read 2 Corinthians 1:3-7. This passage reminds us of the presence of suffering in the Christian life. Why is it encouraging to know that we can count on God’s comfort even when life doesn’t seem to be going smoothly?

Pray for the Last Night of Ignite

Free Randy Alcorn Books

In light of Tobin Bolter's tragic passing an individual in our church has donated several copies of Randy Alcorn's books Heaven and If God is Good: Faith in the Midst of Suffering and Evil. These books are free to anyone who would like them. They can be picked up at the Bookstore and Connect Table on Sunday. If you or anyone in your Life Group or ministry would like one of these books please stop by to grab some copies.

Next Steps at 6151 N Discovery Way

As we shared last week, we are in the process becoming the owners of the building at 6151 N Discovery Way, where The Pursuit Church currently meets. The Pursuit Church will hold their last official service in this building on Sunday, June 30th. We are prayerfully anticipating that some of their congregation will check out Compass during the transition that follows. Please be praying for those souls as they consider this possibility.

On June 23rd the pastors will be engaging with their congregation during a special service. At 10:00am pastor Charlie will deliver a message during their normal service time. Then the Connect Team will help serve a catered lunch while being present to answer questions about Compass. After that all of the pastors will host a condensed version “Exploring Compass” followed by a Q&A for all of those from The Pursuit who are interested.

Please be praying for the 23rd!

Men’s Tournament Series: Golf
Guest Preacher Sunday
Incredible Taking Ground Provision

Men’s Tournament Series: Golf

Our next tournament series event will be a Golf Scramble on July 20th, 8am at Falcon Crest Golf Course. In order to help Brett Howard with coordinating the event with the Golf Course, if you are planning on being a part of it, please register by next Friday, June 7th here.

Guest Preacher This Weekend

Peter Goeman will be blessing our congregation in the ministry of the Word this Sunday. He is an Associate Professor of Old Testament and Biblical Languages at Shepherds Theological Seminary in North Carolina. He’s also the host of a helpful podcast called “The Bible Sojourner.” In addition to preaching, he’s scheduled to record a Due North podcast with us on the question “Why are Hermeneutics so Important to Eschatology?” That should be available in the coming weeks.

Incredible Taking Ground Provision

As we prepare to close on the 17-acres on Ustick Rd (our long-term plan), God has amazingly provided a short-term home for our congregation. The Pursuit will be closing down as a church at the end of June, and they have graciously offered their building to us! As of this Summer, our church will own 33,000 sq. ft. of ministry space that can be used full-time! We will be announcing this to the church this Sunday. We’re still working through the details, but we have an agreement in place with The Pursuit and could be moving there as early as July 7. Praise God for this amazing provision.

An Important Note About the Next Women’s Event

An Important Note About the Next Women’s Event

Ladies, our next women’s event is focused on motherhood and how moms should be connecting their role at home with the Great Commission. For those of you who lead groups that are predominantly past this life stage, I’d strongly encourage you to still come and even to intentionally invite a few strong examples from your group to come in order to encourage the younger women in our church (Titus 2). For this event, I’d even encourage leaders to intentionally team up with a group in a different life stage for the group discussion time for deeper conversation and perhaps ongoing relationships. I’m praying this event greatly helps the moms and even future moms of our church. - Pastor Ben

The event will be on Saturday, June 1st at the Pursuit (6151 N Discover Pl Boise, ID 83713) from 9-11:30am. You and the ladies in your group can register here.

Application Questions:

The Footsteps of Faith
The Ultimate Test
Genesis 22

APPLICATION QUESTIONS

  1. Review Deuteronomy 8:2 & 16; Exodus 20:20; and James 1:2-4. How can understanding some of God’s purposes in trials help you have the right mindset when your faith is tested?

  2. Find a verse/passage that expresses the ultimate value that belongs to God. How will this passage help you in whatever tests you may face this week?

  3. Read Romans 8:32. Think about the logic of this verse. How can this verse bolster your confidence that God will give you what you need when you need it?

  4. Remember the example of Hudson Taylor and the words “Ebenezer” (“Till now the Lord has helped us”) and “Jehovah-jireh” (“The Lord will provide”). How can you meditate more on these realities in the midst of whatever tests you are facing this week?

  5. Read 1 Peter 1:7. How have you experienced the joys that came as your faith is proven genuine through testing? How can that motivate further obedience?

Summer Life Group Schedule
Invite Your Men to the Next Event

Summer Life Group Schedule

For Life Groups that meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, here are the Summer Kids Ministry Series dates again. For all other Life Groups, feel free to alter your schedule accordingly throughout the Summer. Summer is a good time to do more fellowship events outside of your weekly meetings.

We recommend that all Life Groups try to take off August if you can. As a church, we don’t program much in August so that everyone can rest up for the fast-paced programming schedule that starts again every September.

Invite Your Men to the Next Event

Our next Men’s Event is coming up on Saturday May 18th, 8am at the Pursuit. Remind the men in your Life Group to sign up by Friday, May 10th, so that we can have the correct amount of food ordered for the event. You and the men in your Life Group can register here.

Worry Doesn’t Work
Matthew 6:25-34

Funeral Information for Deputy Tobin Bolter
Life Groups - More Prayer This Week

Funeral Information for Deputy Tobin Bolter

Pastor Ben sent out information via email which is pasted below. If anyone in your ministries or Life Groups has questions about the funeral, please direct them to the content of this email. As of sending this we still need 50 more volunteers to distribute the Gospel of John. Please share this need with your Life Group if you haven’t already and be sure to direct them to Chris as stated below.

Dear Church Family,

The funeral service for Deputy Tobin Bolter will be at 3pm on Tuesday at the Idaho Center. Here are a few ways you can be involved in the proceedings that afternoon:

  • Our church and the community will be directed to the outdoor amphitheater at the Idaho Center, as most of the inside of the facility will be reserved for our law enforcement community. It is recommended that you arrive early to find parking. Due to the solemn nature of the occasion and anticipated 3-hour service, the environment will not be conducive to young children.

  • There will be a large processional as Deputy Bolter’s body is transported from Bowman Funeral Home to the Idaho Center. Anyone is welcome to show support by lining the processional route. This could be a great option for whole families. The Ada County Sheriff’s Office will be releasing information on the route.

  • The service will be livestreamed via the Ada County Sheriff’s Office YouTube Channel.

Due to the anticipated attendance from law enforcement officers from all over the country, the inside of the Idaho Center will be reserved for our law enforcement community, family, and close friends. Please do not attempt to go inside the building without a specific invitation.

Another essential way for our entire church family to be involved is through prayer. The greatest desire of Tobin’s family is for God to use this service to glorify Himself and proclaim the gospel. 4000 copies of the Gospel of John are being sent to the church to be distributed at the event. (If you’d like to serve on the team distributing the booklets, please e-mail chris@compassbible.tv) Pray that God uses the words spoken during the service, these booklets, and the ongoing testimony of the gospel to greatly impact our community. We will be praying for this during our Boiler Room prayer meeting this Sunday from 7:40-8:40am in the Heritage Library.

For His Name-

Taking Ground Update
Pray For Resurrection Week

Taking Ground Update

Praise the Lord! We are officially in contract to purchase 17 acres of land on the north side of Ustick Rd, just east of Can Ada Rd on the East side of the Phyllis Canal (this is the same property that we almost went into contract on this time last year).

Now that we are in escrow, there is more work to do in due diligence as we seek to close on this propery. In order to close escrow we need a Conditional Use Permit (CUP). So here is how you can be praying during the next several months as we aim to get our CUP approved:

  1. Favor for our application for a lot split to establish our 17 acre parcel.

  2. Wisdom and creativity as we develop a master site plan that includes where we place our building, and how we intend to deal with wastewater through a septic system.

  3. Pray for our outside consultants (engineers, architects, etc) that the Lord would use them and their expertise to guide us to the right development plan to meet county and city requirements.

We will be announcing this to the church this Sunday!

Pray For Resurrection Week

Be praying that the Lord will use Resurrection Week Live (8pm Sunday-Thursday nights on compassbible.tv), our Good Friday service (6:30pm at Heritage Friday), Eggstravaganza (11am-1pm on Saturday at Heritage), and our Easter Services (8am, 9:45am, and 11:30am on Sunday at Heritage). May God be glorified, saints sanctified, and sinners saved through all that is happening.

  2. Read Philippians 3:12-16. Verse 15 calls the mature to “think this way.” How can you think more like Paul’s example in this passage?

  3. What are you most tempted to desire more than being like Christ? Why are these things not as worthy or valuable as Christlikeness?

  4. Read James 1:2-4. How should this passage and Romans 8:28-30 change your perspective about trials that you are currently facing?

  5. Spend time praying for God to work through all the events of Resurrection Week 2024!

Genesis 18:1-15

APPLICATION QUESTIONS

  1. Read Hebrews 13:2. How can you grow in giving a generous welcome to others at church? In what other contexts would you like to see yourself grow in demonstrating hospitality?

  2. Read Psalm 8:3-4. How can we maintain the amazement expressed in these verses as we think of how God has condescended (in a good way) to love and ultimately redeem us? Why do we so often drift away from this mindset?

  3. What are some current difficult situations in your life? How should the reality that “nothing is too hard for the LORD” shape your perspective in these trials?

  4. Read Numbers 14:11-12. Why is unbelief so offensive to God? How should that affect your view of your own unbelief?

  5. Read Psalm 131:1-2. How can you follow the Psalmist’s example here? What are some ways you may be tempted to occupy yourself with things that are too great and too marvelous? How can you calm and quiet your soul?

Encourage Your Life Group To Serve at Easter
Extra Prep Work For Your Discussion This Week

Encourage Your Life Group To Serve at Easter

Please encourage your Life Groups to serve somewhere this Resurrection Weekend - it truly is an ‘all-hands on deck’ weekend for our church.

Easter Weekend 2024 is March 29th-31st, and we will need help with everything from our Good Friday service, to Eggstravaganza on Saturday, to our three Easter Sunday services. For Good Friday we will have limited kids ministry and need volunteers for infants -2nd grade. For Eggstravaganza, we would love all hands on deck from help with set-up to face-painting to monitoring inflatables, etc. During Easter services we will need volunteers to be bringing groups of students to worship time and to the Bible Time Marketplace with live actors. To sign up to serve go to https://www.compassbible.tv/kids-ministry.

Extra Prep Work For Life Group Discussion This Week

As you can see in some of the Application Questions this week, there is a little more prep work necessary. Please be sure to go through it yourself and encourage your Life Group to spend the time doing the same in preparation for the group discussions!

Application Questions:

Such A Great Salvation
Ephesians 1:3-14

APPLICATION QUESTIONS

  1. Read Ephesians 1:3-14. Work through the passage and make a list of all of the things believers receive from God in Christ. From the list, choose 2-3 things to meditate on/study more over the next couple of weeks. Share with your group what you chose, why, and how you plan to further meditate on/study those things.

  2. Read Ephesians 1:3-6. How can you grow in worshipfully treasuring all that God offers you in Christ? What things hinder your worship and thankfulness to God for your salvation?

  3. Read Ephesians 1:7-10. Grace is far more robust and meaningful than simply "giving us something that we don't deserve." As a group, discuss the many ways the Bible speaks to and about God's grace. What role should grace play in the day-to-day living of followers of Christ?

  4. Read Ephesians 1:7-10. How should affirming God's glory as the purpose of salvation increase our view of God and our worship of God?

  5. Read Ephesians 1:4-5, 11. What do these verses reveal about the nature of salvation?

Invite to the Bible Time Intensive
Don’t Miss The Outpost!

Invite to the Bible Time Intensive

The Bible Time Intensive (Learn More Here) is coming up on March 23rd. If you have a Life Group with folks in the active stages of parenting, please send them the registration and invite them to this important class. This is for both husbands and wives to attend, where they will learn more about the “what and why” behind having Bible Time as a family. It’s okay if only one of the spouses can make it to this intensive.

Don’t Miss The Outpost!

As we mentioned last week, we have launched a new video podcast exclusively for the Deacons of Compass Bible Church Treasure Valley! The Outpost is a video series to help the Deacons of CBCTV stay connected, be encouraged, and get equipped. Below are two videos; the first explains what this series is about, and the second is our first episode!

  3. Read Philippians 3:12-14. How might you be tempted to settle for an external righteousness that is better than most instead of pressing onward toward the goal of Christlikeness?

  4. Read Romans 12:1. In what ways will obedience and being a living sacrifice be painful? What will motivate you to take those painful steps of obedience?

  5. Read Psalm 51:10. How should the grace of God motivate us to pursue blamelessness after failure instead of being content in our sin and shortcomings?

Pray for the Grove Winter Weekend
Watch the Deacon Retreat Videos

Pray for the Grove Winter Weekend

In just over an hour (Friday at 5pm), Middle Schoolers and parents will descend on the church offices as Winter Weekend gets kicked off. Many students and leaders will head to the River Canyon Retreat Center in Garden Valley to kick off the two-night retreat. This year's theme is "The Greenhouse Effect," looking at passages such as Ephesians 6:1-3 and Colossians 2:6-7.

Pray for salvation for those students who have not repented and put their trust in Christ! Pray for sanctification for those who profess faith, that they might set the pace for their peers!

Luc LeFort To Join the Team

As you know, Luc LeFort and his wife, Ariana, visited our church a few weeks ago for a series of interviews, allowing them (and us) to decide if this church was the right fit for them. We recently offered Luc this position, and he has accepted! The LeForts will be moving out sometime around June of this year. Be praying for them as they make this big life transition!
