Read Matthew 5:13-16. In what ways are you personally most tempted to blend in with the sinful world around you? How will these have a negative impact on your ability to shine the light of Christ?

Remind Your Life Group About the 12:30pm Service
Service Need For This Sunday Morning
Remind Your Life Group About the 12:30pm Service
With the move to three services, we have the opportunity for 600 more souls to attend our church. Because the 8:30am and 10:30am services are far more likely to be where new families will attend, remind those in your Life Groups about the opportunity provided for visitors by them attending the 3rd service (if they can) - creating more space in one of the earlier services for those visitors to come and hear the Gospel.
Service Need For This Sunday Morning
We have 13 large bins that are being sent with John Sanborn to Uganda, loaded with supplies for the missionaries at SOS (thank you to all who helped provide gifts for them!). We need someone to help bring the bins to the Boise airport by 6:15am this Sunday. If you or someone in your life group has a truck, a strong back, and a willingness to help transport these bins, please reach out to Cody at cody@compassbible.tv to coordinate getting the bins tomorrow (Saturday 11/9) after the Men’s Breakfast.

The Blessing You Need Most
Genesis 32:22-32
APPLICATION QUESTIONS
Read Matthew 5:3 and then read Revelation 3:17. Why might you, like the church at Laodicea, be tempted to think of yourself as spiritually rich in and of yourself instead of being “poor in spirit”?
Many people use the idea of “wrestling with God” in reference to prayer. While this episode in Genesis 32 points to an actual physical struggle, what principles from this passage should apply to your prayers before God?
Read Matthew 6:32-33. What might you be tempted to seek more than the blessing of God (particularly in anxiety-inducing situations)? What would it look like to seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness in those times instead?
Read 2 Corinthians 12:9-10. How has God shown His power to be perfect in your weaknesses? How have you learned to “kiss the wave that throws you against the rock of ages”?
Read Psalm 27:4-6. How does verse 4 logically lead to the next two verses? How should seeking God lead to confidence in the midst of trials?

Opportunity to Support SOS Missionaries
As you will see in the church-wide email, there is an opportunity to support John Sanborn as he heads to Sufficiency of Scripture Ministry in Uganda, our missionary partner there. To help bless the 6 families that serve with SOS Ministry, we have a list of items we would like to send along with John. They will need to be brought to the church offices by Wednesday 11/6, so please reach out to your Life Groups through your normal means to organize the shopping and drop off of any of these items by then. You can see the list here.

Compass Women
The Duwe Family Arrival
Updated Men’s Retreat Registrations by Life Group
The Power of Prayer
Our 5th distinctive as a church is “We have a genuine reliance upon prayer.'“ Life Group leaders, please remember to make sure that you’re spending a good amount of time praying each group. Also, please encourage others in your Life Group to join you at Boiler Room on Sunday mornings and make it a point to go as a leader once a month (as you are able).
Compass Women
Ladies—Tomorrow at our Women’s Event you will hear details for our Christmas Event as well as the opportunity for ladies to pre-order a Christmas sweatshirt. Women’s Ministry would like to gift you a sweatshirt as a thank you for the year-round ministry you do toward women in our church! You can place your order anytime after the event at compassbible.tv/women, and use the discount code: THANKYOU.
Secondly, we need your help! Our events are always drawing new women who don’t yet attend a life group. We’d love for these ladies to be warmly welcomed when they see an empty seat, rather than told it’s reserved for a particular group. Let's make sure empty seats are available to anyone that may want to sit there, and just snag an extra table (or more than enough chairs) if you’re aiming to keep your group together. It’s a safe assumption to expect some extra gals at your table/discussion time at our church-wide events! Thank you for helping us welcome one another in this way!
The Duwe’s Arrival
The Duwe family will be arrive in town next week! We are so excited for them to join our team. They will be arriving on Tuesday, October 15!
Here are a few ways you could help welcome them to the Treasure Valley and our church:
I am looking for a place for their family to say on Tuesday night before they get the keys to their house on Wednesday, so I wanted to throw that opportunity out to you guys if you or anybody you know would be interested in hosting their family (three kids plus one hypoallergenic dog) for that one night! If you’re interested, please contact me!
We are also putting a meal train together for their first couple weeks. Here is the sign up sheet. Feel free to share this with your Life Group or others who may want to help.
Their belongings will be arriving on Thursday, October 17, and we would love to help them unload. Joe Wigton (the leader of our Care Team) will help to coordinate. You can contact him at 208-860-7593

Ministry Fair
As we prepare to add a third service in November, it's critical that we enlist more “highly committed participants” to serve in light of our growing needs. This Sunday, after each service in the parking lot, there will be several ministries present to answer questions and sign people up to serve. If there is anyone in your Life Group who isn't currently serving anywhere, encourage them to engage in the ministry fair! Perhaps it would be a good idea to send a message to your Life Group to remind them that the ministry fair is happening this Sunday.

Life Group Games - The First Event
Family Weekend Volunteers Needed
We still have a need for volunteers to help with childcare on Friday night and Saturday morning for Family Weekend. If there are any in your Life Groups that would be willing and able to help serve, please encourage them to sign up to serve here.
Mom’s On Mission Night
On Friday, November 8th, from 7pm-9pm, we will be having a Mom’s On Mission night for Compass Women. Please add that to your calendars and pass that information on to the women in your Life Groups. We also be moving our Women’s Christmas Event back to Saturday, December 7th, 6:30pm-9pm (this is a one-day move from Friday night to Saturday night).
Biblical Counseling Training Track: The Fundamentals 2024
Several of you took the Biblical Counseling Training Track Fundamentals course last year. We are offering this class again starting on October 13th! We are sending this information to you for two reasons:
First, so that you can sign up if you are interested. As a life group leader or ministry leader, this content is extremely valuable to help you lead your group members and volunteers through the difficulties of life and the various “one-anothers.” Please consider registering if you didn’t take last year’s class. Register here.
Second, so that you can send this link to anyone in your group that might be interested in something like this. Perhaps they are a “runner” who would serve the group even better if they had this training. Perhaps they are someone who has mentioned their desire to learn more about biblical counseling. Either way, feel free to send this link to those who you think may be interested.
Stephen Duwe in Town
Stephen Duwe and his family are in town this weekend. Stephen is a candidate for a pastoral position at Compass. Pray for his time here, that it would provide clarity for both Stephen and us regarding moving forward with him in the interview process. We will plan to have Stephen back for another visit if we continue the interview process after this weekend.
Life Group Games - The First Event
There is one specific Life Group Game that you will need to prepare for ahead of time - The Best Potato Bite. Each Life Group must bring a gluten & dairy free potato dish that Pastor Charlie and Cody will each eat a single bite, ranking the dishes by their individual preferences. Please bring the dishes made, with a single serving for each, and, if it is ‘best enjoyed warm,’ a way for it to be maintained at a good temperature. Please be very careful regarding dairy & gluten contamination in preparation!

Worship Night 9/13
Rest Well
Worship Night 9/13
Join us on Friday, September 13 from 6-8pm at our church building for an evening of fellowship and worship. The theme of the evening will be the fear of the Lord as we seek to worship Him in reverence, adoration, and awe. We’ll enjoy a dessert fellowship from 6-7pm and then transition to a time of worship from 7-8pm. We will not have childcare, but still encourage you to bring your whole family and worship together!
Rest Well
As a church, we intentionally put a pause on much of ministries in the month of August. Be sure to use this time to rest well. The Fall is approaching swiftly and there will be plenty going on once September comes. Take advantage of this slower month to refuel and refresh yourselves in Christ, meditating on Him and His Word as you prepare for a fresh season of ministry for His Glory.
Application Questions:
What You're Known For
Philemon
APPLICATION QUESTIONS
Why does Paul appeal to Philemon rather than command him? How does this serve as an example for us as we walk with others through areas of growth?
Out of the ten things to strive to be known for, which one(s) can you commit to growing in more intentionally?
How can you strive for godliness that is known in your community without falling into the temptation of seeking to please man?
Consider the slave/master relationship between Philemon and Onesimus. How does the Gospel reshape that relationship?

Taking Ground Update!
Keep Pressing On
Adventure Club Schedule 24-25
Exciting News About the Land!
We have officially closed escrow on the 17 acres of land off Ustick Rd in West Meridian! Praise God for His faithfulness to our church as He has provided for us these last few weeks with a full-time facility and now with land on which we can build a long term home. Let’s continue to work, give, and pray as we seek to glorify God by making disciples here in the Treasure Valley.
Let’s Go!
Keep Pressing On
Though the decision to discipline Mark Fitzpatrick was difficult, the pastors remain confident that it was necessary and best for the unity and purity of Compass Bible Church. We have also been encouraged by the overwhelmingly positive response from our church family that sees the biblical necessity and warrant for this decision.
We are incredibly grateful for each of you and want to encourage you to continue reaching out to us if you have questions on how best to walk alongside the people in your ministries and Life Groups. We are excited for the future of our church and remain confident that the best days of ministry are still to come! In the meantime, let's continue to trust the Lord and hold fast to His Word.
Adventure Club Schedule 24-25
Here are the schedules for Tuesday and Thursday night Adventure Club. Be sure to share them with your Life Groups if you meet on one of these nights so that you can be planning your schedules for the coming year!

Men’s Retreat Registration 2024 Is Live!
Thanksgiving Offering Update
Men’s Retreat 2024 Registration Is Live!
This Fall, we will gather for the 4th annual Compass Bible Church Treasure Valley Men's Retreat in McCall, Idaho at the Quaker Hill Conference Center.
The theme for this year’s retreat is Well Worn.
God calls men to hard work (Col 3:23). We are to be men who pour ourselves out to lead our wives (Eph 5:25-33) and children (Eph 6:4). We are to be men who are the chief servants within the church, calling others to imitate our faith (1 Cor 11:1). We are to be men who run the race of Christianity with a sense of purpose and fortitude (1 Cor 9:24-27). We are to be men who are disciplined planners who don't procrastinate our responsibilities (Prov 6:6-8). We are to be men with worn out Bibles, knees, and hands, leaving everything we've got on the field of life as we run the race for God's glory alone. Men of Compass Bible Church Treasure Valley, join us for the 2024 Men's Retreat where we will search God's Word for what it means to be a ”well worn" man for the kingdom of God.
Be sure to encourage the men in your life groups to register and attend this important weekend for our men’s ministry.
You can register for the retreat here. And as a gift to all of our deacons, we are giving you the flannel add-on. Please select it with your registration and use code DEACON at check out.
Thanksgiving Offering Update
We have raised over $56,000 so far through the generosity of our church in the thanksgiving offering for Compass Bible Church Hill Country’s renovations and our own. Praise God for His faithfulness, for the generosity of His church, and continue to pray that God would use both of these facilities for making disciples of Jesus for His Glory.

Read Psalm 103:13. Meditate on this image of a father showing compassion to his children. How does this encourage you to look to God through the difficulties of life—including your own sin?
